“Good staff but way overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2012

The "Grand" hotel may be relying too much on its Lonely Planet Top Choice rating to get customers in, instead of making sure its services are worth the rates it charges. The rooms are not that clean, smell of damp, and the trickle of water from the shower never ran warm during the stay. Neither did wi-fi work in the room, despite the website claims. Also saw a rat run out of the kitchen and into the garden. On the plus side, the staff at the front desk were very amiable and helpful and can organise tours etc for you. Location is good in that it's near the station, but it's on a busy, dirty main road. They need to up their overall accommodation standards, or reduce their rates.

Staff very friendly. Helped organise tour to border. Free wifi which is a great perk (athough frequent power cuts interrupt skype - not their fault though). Pub adjoined with reasonable priced kingfisher (80Rs + tax). Very handy for train station - literally across the road. Cheap rickshaw to golden temple. Rooms basic but worth the money.

the hotel is situated just opp. to the railway station u can just walk it...a nice old building with a small garden in the center ....rooms are simple clean and nice and great value for money ..
the ground floor room have large windows towards the garden with very less privacy if the curtains are open ...
they are under very slow maintenance ..which needs to be taken care off ...but no real problem for a stay
not to many staff to bother u ..but few very helpful ones ..
.the front desk is very helpful in all matters ...
the food is okie ...but a little costly for its standard ....

Room Tip: corner rooms have better privacy ...ground floor better in summers which are little more cooler

This hotel is very close to the railway station across a busy road. We arrived in the morning and left on the night (1am) train. Owner Sanjay arranged visits to border ceremony and Golden Temple and offered half price room as we would not be staying overnight. Restaurent food was good.

We picked this hotel out of the Lonely Planet as it is across from the train station. You can walk it in less than 3 mins so don't believe the rickshaw drivers who will tell you it's a longer walk!

The hotel has a nice central garden, good restaurant and bar and they can arrange a trip out to the India-Pakistan border closing ceremony and night viewing of the Golden Temple - this trip is well worth doing for the money (500 rupees)

We were happy with everything at this hotel, though I found the room to be underwhelming for the price we paid - aprox 1400 rupees per night - I think the room could have been better for this price which is high for India. But it was very clean and the beds were super comfy.

This is a good choice for Amritsar, which in all honesty is a bit of a dump - the garden and restaurant here really help you recharge after venturing out into the city.
