I'm not a "tour group" person. I just don't like the exploring with a crowd of visitors. However, I had read a lot of positive reviews about the City on Pedals tours and I knew very little about Sikhism. I decided to go on this night walking tour to have some background on the Golden Temple. My guide, Rabia, was a fountain of knowledge. She was very funny and pointed out all aspects--both positive and negative--of the places we visited. She also spent about 20 minutes explaining the Sikh religion including a quick overview of each of its 10 gurus. This was extremely illuminating. During the Guru Granth Sahib ceremony, she explained what was happening at each step and then moved me to a place where I'd have a better vantage point for the next step/stop in the procession. A highlight was the tour of the Guru-ka-Langar kitchen facility. Even if I had visited on my own and somehow made my way into the kitchen, I would not have known what everyone was doing. The insight I gained in the 2 hour visit made for one of the richest experiences I have had in India. Without hesitation, I highly recommend this tour especially if Rabia is leading!
After a day on my own in Amritsar, I opted to go back to City on Pedals and join them for the bicycle heritage tour. Another great experience.
