The hostel is very well located, in a more quiet area, there is a park and supermarket at 3 mins walking distance as well as tasty food stands and restaurants selling local food. The cultural and historic centre (e.g. Golden Temple) is close by in TucTuc. The tours offered by City on Pedals are simply the best!! 100% recomendable place.
We stayed four nights at the hostel City on Pedals and had a wonderful time in Amritsar. We stayed in the air-conditioned room which is beautifully decorated and with lovely details, such as personal sockets, a fan and light. To insure privacy every bed has its own curtains, making the atmosphere cosy and welcoming. The mattress is very comfortable (and not as hard as beds usually are in India). The bathrooms are shared, there is hot water and they are cleaned a few times a day. In the spacious common kitchen (there are two) we found also drinking water (which was very handy as we didn't have to go out to buy water) and a good indian lunch was also cooked for everyone. Especially for those people who have sensitive stomachs, this is a nice detail.
Rishabh (the owner) is a very kind and calm person, and we had the feeling that his priority is to make people feel at home and happy in his hostel. He adapted all the tours we booked with him to our needs and went out of his way to do so. The tours by the City on Pedals team were excellent, the guide Rabia, explained cultural, historical and religious facts with great expertise (and fun! :) ). We absolutely loved the Village Tour and the Wagah Border Tour, as we were interested in the culture and history of the place. We also took the Heritage Walking Tour. The guide Rabia took us to places we would never have found on our own and gave us a colourful insight into the chaotic afternoon street life. A must see is also the Golden Temple of the Sikh (this tour was also really good!).
It was the best decision to go to Amritsar and we are really grateful to the City on Pedals team to have given us such a deep insight into the historic, cultural and religious context of this region in India.
