Review of Utopia Farmstay
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Nov 2018via mobile
Utopia farmstay was strongly recommend to us by a friend. Come Diwali, we started to scurry for options for a weekend getaway, rather late. Luckily, we could book the last 2 rooms for our stay. We travelled as a family of 5. Utopia had enough to offer to enthrall my 2 year old as well as captivate his grandparents. Many previously written reviewes will mention the artistically done up rooms and the unique decore, but what struck me most was the simplicity and sincerity on the whole. Both, Uttara and Adwait Kher (celebs in their own right, which I discovered much later) are fantastic people. Extremely down to earth and immensely talented. It was really inspiring to meet them both. Saunskruti was very helpful and prompt through out our stay.

We got 2 of the best rooms (one with a view of the lake and sunrise; the other with a view of the lake and sunset!). I later was told that each room was furnished uniquely with restored antique wood and artifacts created using them.

Eating Mrs Uttara Kher's breakfast is like having lunch in the morning. The spread was lip smacking and wholesome. I really appreciated her mindfulness, when she would store away a portion of food for children to eat later. Meals served later in the day were delicious too.

A seperate mention for the tea. It was something we missed terribly after returning.

The small walk through the fields get you to the lake adjoining the farm. Mr. Adwait was ever ready to accompany the guests for a quick swim. We missed the trek to Anjaneri as we arrived later that day.

All in all, a totally no fuss place where we could roll on the grass, where my 2 year old could just start digging anywhere he liked, play a game of foosball one moment and lay on the swing and star gaze another!

Thank you so much! Such a wonderful review. The bachha party was really the highlight of the Diwali weekend for us. Vishu is such an intelligent and well-brought-up child! Please feel free to drop him over whenever you need a babysitter :)

The secret ingredient in the chai if I'm not mistaken is lots of gavti chaha.

Hope to see you'll again. Lots of love, Saunskruti.

We are couple and are expecting a kid. So we were very vary of choosing a new place.

Utopia turned out to be one of the best experience possible. Not only were we pampered to core but we felt we were at a home away from home.

Let me get into specifics

1. Location and rooms- rustic huts with modern amenities overlooking an amazing lake which gives you a sense of privacy. But it is only a few minutes away from Sula and Soma vineyards. The rooms are made from eco-friendly material as well.

2. Food- Uttara aunty makes breakfast herself and the Akuri and almond cakes are too die for. We packed some for our way back as well. We requested dinner since we wanted to eat home cooked food. It was super yummy..you can order from nearby restaurants if you feel like as well. We din take that option though. We drove to York nearby for some desserts

3. Hospitality- this is a perfect home stay, you are treated as family members and get a chance to mingle with people staying there. It is not a place where people want to "party".

4. Others- Advait uncle takes you for treks nearby (though we couldn't go) but guests staying with us loved it. You can also go for a swim in the lake if you are up for it.

Overall an amazing experience. Will be back soon for sure.

And special thanks to Uttara aunty, Advait uncle and Saunskriti for making it memorable.

Utopia stands out as a beautifully designed farm stay comprising of 10 or something cottages, overlooking clean blue waters of the Godavari lake reserve. The place is painstakingly designed and made with a lot of love, keeping the look and feel to be very earthy and simple. The stunning view of the sunset, flocks of geese and flamingos sighted over the morning sunrise - were a pleasure to witness for our city-weary eyes. Our highlight from our stay here included - the whole ambience of the place (run efficiently by the entire family), the trek that Mr Advait took us on towards Anjeneri Hillock and Temple, meeting fellow travellers and making new friends. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for pristine earthiness and have simple demands.

What all comes to your mind when you think of Nashik? Wine? Vineyards? Shirdi? Trimbakeshwar? Well.. you are right. And wrong… There is more and much more.. There are fields, there are lakes, there are farms and birds and forts and villages and village crafts and then there is UTOPIA !! And there are creators of Utopia .. Adwait and Uttara !

As you cross the city of Nashik and approach Gangapur Village road, you start smelling the fresh nature’s air and green fields, farms lined with vegetable and flower plantations start welcoming you. After you leave Sula to your left and York Winery to your right, you see this signboard guiding you towards Utopia. Your get on an uneven village road, which incidentally start to give you the feeling of having reached the country side and adds to the flavor of the journey. You cross the vegetable plantations and after winding your way through couple of lefts and rights, you finally see the Utopia’s gates wide open as if welcoming you to the natures lap.

The Utopia… dictionary meaning of the word is Paradise, Heaven.. and trust me, that’s what this Utopia is. Beautifully laid out 10 Cottages around a lush green carpet grass lawns having lovely flower (Roses and Lilly’s) corners. At the backside of cottages along the periphery of the property are the Papaya, Lemon, Coconut, Mango and lots of different variety of trees and creepers and flowers, which are used to supply fresh fruits and vegetables for consumption. Then there is large open plot where their staff does the farming for fresh vegetables. We could see them taking out the harvest of fresh ground nuts which our son enjoyed watching a lot.

Few words about the making of Utopia (as gathered from the creator cum curator cum owner of Utopia).. This place the child of labour, passion and dream of this couple, Uttara and Adwait. I leave the story of their reaching Nashik to spend their life there, dropping their very lavish and glamorous lives behind at Mumbai, for you to discover when you reach Utopia. But I must tell you that Adwait is a Master of the art of carpentry and specializes in antique furniture design and restoration. It is fascinating to know is that every door, window, tables, chairs, wooden wall artifacts are all either made/restored by Adwait himself or has been collected by him by travelling across the length and breadth of the country in search of ancient and antique wooden furniture from various villages and towns. There are these two large ancient wooden swings at the property, beautifully carved and restored. Each cottage at the property has a story to tell and each piece of furniture you use has a history to it. Can it get any more authentic a farm stay than this?

And then there is this area at the property which is the reception cum dining area. But more than that it the melting pot of the property where the guests sit and chat and share their experiences of life, of travel, or any or everything. The charming hosts, Adwait and Uttara are there in the mornings and evenings to join the guests to share their life and stories. They say that’s what makes them most happy as that’s what they had dreamt of from this place. People from diverse background coming to the property to experience the nature, village life, delicious food made under the supervision of Uttara herself (she is gorgeous cook !!) and more importantly interact with each other and with them to share their life’s experiences. And that’s one of the main reasons they don’t provide in room catering services and they do not permit any meals in the rooms.

If that’s not enough for you, then Adwait would guide or may even accompany you to the various types of walks he suggests you must take.. the lake walk, the temples walk, the pottery making walk, to see milking of cows, trek to nearby hills and forts, visit to nearby villages to see the potters, the ironsmiths and various other village artisans. There is this small pond in which they intend to breed fishes and that would give you the experience of fishing.

Mind you, while the property takes you into another world while you stay there, it also offers you with the all worldly comforts like Air conditioning, geysers, in room tea coffee/ biscuits, comfortable clean beds and linen etc. To keep you engaged at the property there are variety of indoor games like handmade chess board, Fusball table, Carrom board etc.

So I strongly recommend that if you are a traveler who loves to really leave the city life behind, explore the nature, get the authentic experience of village life, enrich your soul and body.. then think no longer. Utopia is the place or you !

Room tip: All rooms are excellent.

It was by luck that we found this place. We have just gotten two new motorbikes and wanted to make a trip out of Bombay. A colleague of mine is from Nashik and recommended us to go there. Since we did not want to ride up and down in a day we looked on the internet for a place to stay and Utopia Farmstay was one of the top ones on the list. We instantly were attracted to the pictures and the story behind the concept.

It was clearly explained what to expect. And we truly felt welcomed into the home of Uttara and Adwait. A lovely place, all the comforts you need. And without wifi and TV as this you do not need 😊 Nicely built rooms with quirky details.
Don’t expect a hotel and don’t demand. All what is provided is provided with love and respect. The breakfast might be considered simple for some people, but remember that it is made with love and this you can taste, that in itself is satisfying. It was very delicious and accompanied by a very nice conversation with the host.

No coffee, but great masala chai, which even these two coffee lovers loved to drink.

Lovely views of the lake and peace and quiet. We will surely go back!!

Thank you so much Uttara and Adwait!

It was a great weekend I spent at Utopia Farmstay with my wife and daughter. Undoubtedly the best farm stay we ever had. Room was cosy with Eco friendly n full of hand made carpentory work by Adwait Sir... the owner. The lake view is Sooper. Food was tasty n homely. Above all the hospitality n warmth shown by Adwait Sir, Uttara ma'am n Sanskriti is exceptional... Overall a great stay..

Thank you so much. We had a lovely time hosting you and your family as well. I sent Sanjana the pictures, I hope she showed them to you! To serve a meal to someone who knows hospitality so well had us a little nervous. But we're so glad you had a good time. Hope to see you and your family again soon. Warm Regards, Saunskruti.
