We had a lovely stay at the High Range Club, where you feel as though you've stepped into another era. We had a ground floor double room, which was clean though fairly simple, although they'd nicely renovated the bathroom. We had many set meals here and all were of high quality, with lots of options. We did experience blackouts on all days, which were a little frustrating. The only letdown was the general upkeep, which wasn't up to the quality one would expect, e.g. there was a lot of rubbish in the bushes outside our room, cleaning products were left scattered outside, marring our view, and our rubbish bin was emptied oddly outside our room and left there. There are gorgeous walks one can do through the tea estates.

If visiting Munnar, this hotel which is central to the history of the district, is the place to stay. It's faded elegance speaks volumes about those who started the tea industry in the area. Beware however that it has no licence so that nostalgic gin and tonic won't happen.

Not very well marked road to find this place. Once found, the staff were accommodating even though they claimed not to have our reservations and nearly turned us away. Our driver thought we should stay elsewhere but we kept to the plan for it being dark and late. Decent food. Simple cottages. Clean enough for a short stay. Glad to have a cottage with an updated bathroom. Gekos in house, but harmless. Driver allowed to stay on property in van overnight. Cable TV was the only thing going on at night. Very quiet. Nobody around to make noise. No bar. Bring your own fun in a bottle. Not first choice for the next trip.

The club is an affiliate club of the famous Secunderabad club in Hyderabad of which i happen to be a member. So the old world charm of a vintage club and it's primitive rules is nothing new for us. But it's location is noteworthy. The best view of the sprawling tea gardens could be had from the cottage No.11 , which was conveniently booked for us and was overlooking the moor. Believe me , there is a small lawn in front of the porch of this cottage and is bordered by a low wall of which we had made an improvised table of sorts. It was here that we enjoyed every bit of the sprawling views of the tea gardens and the moor both during early mornings through late evenings , while sipping some very finely brewed coffee and tea. But the food served could best be rated as something short of average. Not worth paying for. However the lack of even a single fan in the spacious cottage was a definite eye-sore and the weather demanded that the fan was definitely required as we had travelled in the month of May. The bathrooms are impeccably maintained though. A must see place for all tourists passing through Munnar. You will not be disappointed if i may say so!

Wooden floor, formal dress-code for entering the dining hall, no round neck Tees... some of the rules of this club.

The club is very old and has maintained its heritage value, the british influence as well as discipline that you usually never experience at other places.

The service is awesome, Food is perfect. Location is beautiful. Facilities - considering this is a very old place, are good. There is a golf cource, a helipad, tennis and squash and TT and basketball court, billiards room, card games room, etc. Everything is so so English! also fireplace at lounges and halls.

No fans in the rooms as it is always cold. This place is an experience in itself.

I personally loved the food, the setting, the service and the discipline. Not everyone will like it, but it depends who the TG is!

Room Tip: Main Building rooms facing Golf Course!
