Our first impressions were really good. Views are fantastic and you really are in the middle of the plantations.
The rooms are basic, bucket hot water and probably not the cleanest but this didn't really phase us too much, it is lower end of scale for cost.
However it was the manager (not owner, although I think his tactics were orders from the owner) that ruined what would otherwise have been a pleasant stay.
He's great when buying treks through him, but his whole attitude changed when we got another rickshaw for a tour. We bumped into him in town, and he started shouting at our new driver, who then turned to us asking if we had already booked through someone else!
On the last night he quoted us an expensive amount for onward taxi journey, so we booked elsewhere - when we mentioned we were ok for taxi next morning, he said there was small problem with room rates, and that our room was another 200rupees per night than what he had originally agreed. Basically he was trying to extort another 600 rupees for nothing, and
after reading other reviews it sounds like it's not the first time this has been done.
Although wrong, I wouldn't have minded if this was just a light hearted attempt to get extra
cash, but after we said we weren't paying the extra he got quite agressive, to the point we didn't sleep a wink that night!
Sorry Lonely planet I think you really need to rethink this as your top pick!
