Must see places in Junagadh, notable the "adi chadi vav" and the "nav ghan stepwell". Reach early for a very surreal experience of the mountain and the stepwell. You may also beat the hordes of visitors and children who throng this place.
There are couple of refreshment outlets as well.
Can spend half a day in comfort.

Dear Friends,

Eager to know more about the Girnar Mountain? (Junagadh is situated on Girnar Mountain), then must come here.

Here the famous Adi-Kadi Step-well, Buddhdha Caves, Navghan Well, Giant Store rooms for grain, Giant water reservoir & Castle.

Do not forget to look at Mt. Girnar and Mt. Ambaji from Binocular provided by local people, who will show you the places on Mt. Girnar and Mt. Ambaji.

Bargain here.

Right from the gateway the fort looks as if in shambles. But as you walk in you can make out from the ornate gateways and the high stone walls that the fort was once quite a bastion that supposedly has been besieged 16 times and has once withstood a 12-year siege. The whole fort takes more than an hour to be discovered. As you enter there is a hanuman temple. Then turning left takes you to the Jama Masjid with140 pillars supporting its ceiling. The Masjid is maintained though. Further down the road you reach the Buddhist caves quite ornately carved dating from before 500 AD. the most interesting feature is a huge, 15 ft cannon, made in Egypt in 1531.There are also two interesting large step wells (vavs) here named after two slave girls. A circular stairway goes over 50 m down into the well.

Petra in Jordan , comes to mind when you first see the 'vaav' or wells carved from stone in Uperkot, Junagadh. Apart from the brilliant engineering of connecting many such wells , to provide water to the city of Junagadh, the engineering acumen of the erstwhile Junagadh empire is exemplified by the two cannons - which overlook Junagadh city.
These were built with the best of materials by engineers from Persia and Turkey and protected the princely state of Junagadh from many attacks.
Green trees and innumerable peacocks dot the landscape and so do many temples.
A must visit for hiking or visit , when in Junagadh!

The stepwells carved out of sheer rock are worth viewing. Its amazing to see that there is still water in these wells. Unfortunately they are very badly maintained, people have thrown a lot of garbage in the well. If only the local people and authorities would take more interest in this beautiful place which no one can even dream of building in this day and age.
