Excellent stay and the host. Very beautifully maintained place. Very clean. Interior is different from the places we stayed before. You will feel homely. The locality is also different. You will feel like you are in a foreign country. A must stay place.

I arrived at 21:00, after a long flight without a reservation. The owner of the place who treated me with human warmth, as if I were her son, placed me in the cleanest room I had ever stayed in in India!!! The place is pleasant, homey and quiet and especially safe.

After seeing the reviews in TA we have decided to stay here. It's a homely experience for us and the owners are courteous. They even guided us properly regarding the complete coverage of GOA.And they even arranged the transportation for local tour. One thing we felt little inconvenience is the breakfast which they give is not at all suitable for Indians. I like the ambience, privacy and antiquity. The terrace is so good and they arranged the breakfast on it.The main advantage of this place is it's location, which is very convenient to cover the South and North Goa. The surrounding areas are fantastic and reminds you the authentic Goa. Overall it's a pleasant experience.

Arriving from hectic Mumbai after a long and exhausting train ride I felt immediately welcome and home at Afonso. Jeanette and Clifton were just lovely and I enjoyed my beautiful room. Having breakfast on the roof or sitting there in the evening with a nice view away from any noisy streets was wonderful. You can feel that the whole place was created and is kept with love, personality and a sense for tradition and comfort. It is ideally located and I really hope I can come back one day - thanks, Jeanette and Clifton!

Clifton makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, This is a really charming place to stay. Situated in a lovely old area away from the main street traffic noise, next to a charming old Portugese church, surrounded by tropical pot plants, complete with two resident (shy) puss cats. All you need in the bedrooms without the distractions of electronic gizmos. This is your ideal base for exploring Panjim.

Room Tip: Next door to Viva Family Restaurant for Goan cuisine.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Afonso Guest House, run by Panaji's reputed Afonso family, is more than just a guest house to its many patrons. Nestled in the capital city's quaint Latin quarter of Fontainhas, it is a veritable bridge between Goa's Portuguese past and Indian present. A favoured haunt for many an adventurous traveller for over three decades, its hospitality and peppy spirit show no sign of aging and are still as fresh as they were back then. It makes no pretense of being luxurious; instead, Afonso Guest House prides itself in being simplistic and practical. With its friendly and welcoming hosts, it's truly your home away from home-clean and functional, the rooms are airy, and equipped with everything a traveler might need. However, the clincher is its lovely terrace graced with potted plants where traditional Goan breakfasts are served to guests every morning, overlooking the whitewashed St Sebastian Chapel. So, if you seek home in a foreign land, come over! Really! You won't regret it. ... more   less
