We spent a week here in June. After three unsuccessful viewings we obtained a room we were happy with, enjoying a pleasant view of the woods and the marina, rather than being overlooked by other rooms (one room was shielded from that by a high wall preventing any view). The staff at the Parentium were wonderfully patient, helpful and polite, and spoke excellent English. They have to live with the hand the architect dealt them, and if someone cannot be persuaded to occupy them (these are the 'inland view rooms' - beware if that is what your package deal is for - these are the least expensive) the hotel's income suffers.
This was the only blip in our week, a week which got better and better despite the occasional thunderstorm. The setting of the hotel, on a headland, is perfect. While entry at the tiny pebble beaches or the various other points carefully constructed along the rocky headland requires rubber shoes and some determination, the effort of bathing in the sea is rewarding. Also enhanced by the thoughtful provision of freshwater showers at frequent intervals (and drinking fountains). The sea is crystal clear, and a touch warmer than the two excellent hotel pools on the large terrace, above the sea front. Keen sea goers have a number of opportunities from organised trips to hiring a jet ski, at a different hotel. There is a nearby ski-tow, a construction which offers torture on water skis for beginners, and voyeurish entertainment for all.
Some reviews have mentioned poor food, or surly service. Not our experience. We ate every night in the buffet restaurant; not Michelin star stuff, but plenty of choice; for instance freshly grilled meat or fish; we were not driven to eat out. The local Croatian house wine (about £16, 135 kuna a bottle) is excellent, and for approximately £5 extra (45 kuna) one had a substantial choice of delightful local wines. While not cheap, it is no more expensive than many good hotels elsewhere. It was served promptly and cheerfully; however the waiters' good humour could not overturn a house rule that only one glass of tap water per person shall be served.
Hotels that serve sparking wine at breakfast, provide a superb piano player in the evening, and white towelling dressing gowns for its clients, all complimentary, as does this one, deserve a high rating. It aims for the middle aged to elderly market, though young children are catered for. It does not offer an all-inclusive option, just breakfast or half board, and that for us is a plus, as it keeps quality high. We would certainly return.

Room Tip: Our room 236 was fine, for the best, ask for the sea view suites.

We were slightly worried that we’d booked a SAGA tour when we saw the average age of the (mostly foreign) guests in this hotel as most people were over 60! However it’s a lovely hotel with nice rooms and a great outdoor space with two pools (for some reason one is salt water?!) and lots of sun beds, plus a garden area with sun beds and a cast line with sun beds on the edge of the sea. Lots of friendly staff, although the waiting on staff don’t smile much, but then nor do most Croatians it would seem! The meals are typical production line buffet style - not very exciting or tasty but for an extra £50 it’s worth going half board and deciding whether to eat there in the evenings. The breakfasts are ok - lots of choice of hot and cold food, but the evening meals are pretty average and the service is somewhat unimpressive yet the prices for drinks are steep. We bought beer and bottled water from the nearby shop and took it with us to the restaurant to avoid the extortionate prices (and slow grumpy service - there are plenty of waiters who don’t speak English)!
The sun beds are often reserved so get down and put your towel on one before breakfast if you want to get a certain spot.
From the hotel it’s about an hour to walk into Porec, so may be worth getting the tourist train or water taxi if you want to go out in the evenings. The last train leaves Porec at 10.45 however, so you may end up walking back or getting a taxi. Porec is a charming place though and worth a visit in the evenings, if not to get away from the old people in the hotel! It’s nice to be away from the town and the coast line is very nice.
THe reception staff are helpful and the agency for booking and trip is very helpful so we booked car hire and a trip to Venice from there with the nice lady.
There is a gym and wellness centre, which is ironic seeng as they don’t have many diet drinks in Croatia!
It’s also near the water park, which is great and well worth the 10 minute walk if you like that kind of thing...
There is WiFi in the hotel and rooms, and the rooms have a fridge and are well decorated and clean.
Overall it’s a lovely place but if you want to be closer to the action then you should look at somewhere nearer to Porec. That said, Porec tends to get quiet around 11pm so not really a party capital!
Oh and the restaurant has a great fish section if you look round the corner, let down only by serving shark one night - a cardinal sin in my book, you should be ashamed of yourselves - sharks are seriously endangered and there’s no excuse for this.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at this location. We were a family of four with one young child. We requested high floor rooms close together we were given two adjoining suites on the seventh floor - I think we had been given an up grade which was good. The room was comfortable clean with two shower rooms (no bath) The rooms needed some refurbishment, but overall OK. There were some "over selling" and omissions which I wished I had known about before booking. The hotel says it has an indoor children's pool - not so. There is a separate pool which has hydrotherapy jets running on an automatic timer (info provided by pool staff) and not in my opinion suitable as a children's pool. The Pool side restaurant does not have a children's menu, although there were many children staying at the Hotel. They advertised a children's club but this does not open until mid June. The Reception staff were very helpful, if a little stretched at times. The building and amenities were OK but needed some care and attention especially the low roof areas in front of the hotel which need a good clean up as they look like you are overlooking an industrial site. The BIG disappointment for me was the Restaurant. It was understaffed and the staff were overwhelmed at times so getting drinks and the tables cleared (it was buffet style for all meals) was a struggle. The same with the food service - much of the food was cooked at the serving area but the staff at times could not keep up the restocking the service counters, this caused both over cooked and undercooked food. I'm not sure it deserves it's 4 star rating maybe three. If the hotel reviews it's food provision and service as well as some care and attention to the building fabric this could be an outstanding 4 star hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view room on floors 7 and above have best views and are quiet.

Dear DBDDorset,
Thank you for your detailed review. The hotel Laguna Parentium doesn't have the 7th floor; we have a ground floor and 4 upper floors. Since we are adult’s friendly hotel, we also don’t have children’s pool or any other facility for children. But, please be assured that opinion of all our guests truly matters to us and therefore the comments and remarks were taken in to consideration. Regards,

I totally agree with the latest reviewer, presently still here after arriving on Tuesday for an 11 night stay, we arrived at the hotel about 10.30 am , there was one receptionist dealing with a customer and another young guy just stood at the desk, no eye contact or acknowledgement, after about a 15 minute wait we were dealt with and our room was ready, the room is lovely and spacious and a cleaner by the name of Marica works very hard and always has a smile or good morning. The dining room staff completely ignore you and have one speed SLOW, we had three attempts one morning to get hot water and milk for tea, and this morning eventually getting the hot water on first attempt by the time we came back with our breakfast the hot water had been removed and given to somebody else. The hotel and location lovely but Bradley let down in the dining room.

Just returned from a 4 day short break staying in a room with a sea view. On arrival which was at 21.30 we were directed to the resteraunt for our cold buffet meal, this was nothing to write home about and was disappointing. We had booked a twin room but were given a double, when we contacted reception they offered to seperate the bed but in actual fact they only gave us seperate linen still sharing the same bed.
The food at the hotel was okay but nothing to write home about and the resteraunt lacked total atmosphere, no background music and on the outside balcony the lights were strip lights rather than soft lighting.
The waiters had no interaction with the guests or each other, they did their job but there was not a hint of a smile apart from Alesandro who had a smile for everyone who was lucky enough to be served by him.
The pool areas were very clean but sadly as often happens the rule about not reserving sun beds and removing towels after an hour was never adhered to this resulted in the prime position beds being reserved by 8am but nobody used them until about 11am. It would be a bonus if the pool bar offered poolside service and also if the bar opened earlier than 11.30am. Also please do not allow inflatables in the pool area, they take up a lot of room and dont really suit infinity pools and the tranquility that adults should expect.
The spa was lovely and the massage was excellent but I have never been to a spa where there is not a water fountain as it is important to keep hydrated after a massage but there was not water available. It is also the first time I have never been asked my medical history before receiving a treatment.
On the whole the hotel was good but lacked atmosphere, there was no entertainment and no nice touches like a bottle of complimentary water in your room, bar snacks to have with your drinks.
With a few changes this could be a brilliant hotel, the staff are efficient but not friendly to guests or even with each other.
I would come back to this area but not this particular hotel which is a shame.
The spa was lovely and the
