There are many restaurants in Bol so picking one is never easy. We wanted pizza and this one was just as we like them, thin bases and not to much topping. If your out for anything else warm you are out of luck here. There are various sharing plates of cheese and meats etc. And a couple of other warm dishes but this is primarily a pizza restaurant. It also does good house wine by the glass or carafe. Worth a visit and the views are great of the harbour, you can also sit on the sea wall on cushions with tables fixed to the sea wall. Good tasty food and worth a visit.

From the moment we entered the terrace overlooking the sea we felt at home, the waitress was lovely and informative about the menu. The food was really lovely, cooked to perfection and seasoned well, the dessert was to die for "the triple delight" It was one of our group's more expensive meals but you get what you pay for and it was worth every penny.

The restaurant was busy, nice inside. The service was great, very friendly efficient, but the food was very average and overpriced. The fish platter the next table ordered looked good but ours was pretty small and not that tasty. Even the bread didn't taste of very much. The wine we had though was really nice so perhaps we ordered the wrong thing....

We had dinner at Taverna Riva with friends on an evening in September. It was a breezy night so the waitress brought us blankets so that we could stay warm while enjoying the views over the harbour. I had Mediterranean noodles and was glad the waiter warned me that the dish didn't actually contain noodles but was strips of beef of a rocket salad. I ordered a side of gourmet potatoes which included tomatoes, olives and pine nuts which was delicious. The house white wine was good. My husband and our friends all had fish which they enjoyed. The waiter was friendly and helpful.

Might come back and edit this after visiting a few more places in Bol, but left our first lunch with mixed feelings.

We went here purely on the basis that when last in Bol 12 years ago this was the restaurant we visited the most - I had no expectation of this meaning anything after so much time but made a quick decision when looking for lunch after arriving from Korcula.

Menu looked reasonable, if very highly priced so we ordered (a beef salad, grilled clams/mussels, fried chicken, veg risotto, sea bass) along with a jug of fresh lemonade and a couple of glasses of house white.

Our friendly water brought the drinks quickly and demonstrated his good interaction by making a joke of the boys obvious need for some sugar for their lemonade after their first slug. Wine was fine (for 18kn a glass).

Food arrived quickly and was generally of a decent quality (risotto probably the best) but some of the price/quantity was scary (I had 19 shell fish with no sides for 150kn).

Desserts will better priced and all very good quality (lava cake, lavender creme brûlée, fried ice cream, triple delight) as was the coffee.

They are obviously trying to offer a slightly upmarket experience and the restaurant, view and staff match that. But for a lunch of five mains, four deserts and three glasses of wine we spent just over 1,000kn. We've spent that before on three courses each, glasses of wine and a good bottle of red.

I get the price you can charge because of the location, but I'd expect very strong cooking for the prices here and - dressers aside - it's not at that level.

But judging by other reviews of places in town this might be the best you can do. A few more days to find out.

Thank whars
