What an outstanding hotel. The staff were absolutely excellent. They couldn't do enough to help us out. We wanted some bus tickets to get to the Tiger Leaping Gorge and the staff ordered them and had them delivered to the hotel. WOW. We also needed some medicine for a headache and since my husband nor I could speak chinese, they went and got it for us and brought it back to the hotel. Again WOW.

The location of the hotel is great for exploring the old town of lijiang with a back entrance. The view of the Jade snow mountains from the bar area in the lobby was just sensational. The grounds of the hotel are just lovely to walk around and acclimatise yourself with the altitude. Food at the restaurants were good and the service at breakfast was good on each occasion.

Just a great hotel. We just loved it.

In true Chinese development fashion, the Lijiang Crowne Plaza is ENORMOUS. My girlfriend and i stayed here during January of 2012 for a total of 5 nights and we loved the experience.

We had booked into a suite room priced at an online discount rate at the time. The suite was probably the most elaborate hotel room i have ever stayed at. The mountain view suite was divided into three sections, with a big living room, main bed room and bathroom (toilet and shower had their own rooms inside the bathroom). There were chocolates, fruits and flowers when we first arrived in the room. The only bad thing i could say about the room was the random sounds and noises that would come on at odd times of the evening (including the AC suddenly turning on and just general creaking etc)

The breakfast probably had the most elaborate selection i have seen in any hotel buffet breakfasts with a huge selection of Chinese dishes along with your traditional continental choices. We ate at the Seven Colors restaurant twice and they were both great experiences, although the price is rather steep given the abundance of food choices in old town itself.

If you're looking for extravagance and a unique hotel experience, i would say this hotel would be for you.

If i had one constructive criticism i could give for the hotel (which is quite difficult!), i'd have to recount this story:

maybe because we booked into the suite, there was a soup served in the evenings. One evening at around 9:30pm, when both of us were sound asleep, they brought in the soup. (if you don't answer the door, they will simply come inside and leave the soup there). Another evening, we deliberately put on the 'do not disturb' sign because we didn't want soup, they RANG us instead telling us about the soup delivery, which we found quite funny given that we 'did not want to be disturbed'. To us, it just seemed like the service was almost intrusive, even though it was done with good intentions.

Other than that, we had a wonderful time!

The hotel is what you expect from Crowne Plaza but, in this setting it's even better.

The hotel is set up more like a resort. The LiJiang old town lies right behind it.

The whole design is based on the area. Rather than being just another hi rise hotel they have fitted it in with the area using low rise condo concepts.

Definitely recommended!!!!

We were booked to stay at the Crowne Plaza by our tour company China Odyssey Tours as part of our China tour itinerary. We travelled as a family of 4 and we stayed for 3 nights.
All we can say is Wow! This is not an ordinary hotel but a resort styled like an ancient Chinese village (with a modern twist). The hotel/resort is divided into the main area which houses all the restaurants, gym, reception facilities and most of the rooms were housed in separate 2 storey bungalows forming quite a large complex. One of the highlights for me was the way they designed the public areas where we had one which faces Snow Mountain and one that was like a courtyard surrounded by the restaurants all very tastefully decorated. An ideal place to relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing.
The rooms were spacious with modern facilities. I really appreciated the fact that we had a separate shower and toilet cubicles and a separate bath area which made the bathroom spacious. It also has interesting “Japanese” style sliding doors dividing the bathroom from the main bedroom which when open makes the entire room very spacious. Apart from the standard TV etc they had a nice Bose sound system which complimented the comfortable bed and fantastic selection of pillows allowing us good rest every night. Also appreciated were the standard of the cleaning staff who maintained our rooms to a high standard.
The breakfast buffet was extensive with a good selection of Western and Asian dishes. We had dinner in the Chinese restaurant and found it expensive (as are most hotel restaurants) but thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We also ordered room service and were most impressed by the short waiting time before the meals were delivered still piping hot.
The gym was reasonably well equipped and we appreciated the large heated pool. Unfortunately the spa pool was freezing cold so was unable to enjoy that facility.
The staff were extremely friendly especially the porters who I felt sorry for who had to lug 4 heavy suitcases up the stairs to our rooms and their help was most appreciated. Checking in and checking out was a breeze and we also appreciated the hot beverages available in reception throughout the day. The porters were also happy to “drive” us to our bungalow complex in their buggy similar to those in beach resorts if we were too lazy to walk! Probably a necessity if it rained.
The location was ideal as the secured back gate allowed us to enter the "old" town. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would be happy to return if and when we do come back to visit Lijiang.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms close to the complex if rain is anticipated during your stay. If stairs are an issue...
