White table cloth, but many go sweater and pants casual! The menu changes, but is always yummy. Has a beef, fish, bird, and several other entrees to pick from. Chef choice is awesome! If bread pudding is on the menu it is to die for and I don't like bread pudding. Great bar and wine selection but we have taken our own! Upstairs is for large parties, did our daughter's rehearsal dinner upstairs and everyone still talks about it 5 years later! Chris DuPont is from Louisiana and it shows but not in a over spiced way!

Great Lunch spot excellent hot tasty food with just the right portion size. Excellent wine list features chardonnay not commonly available.

This place always gives Frank Stitt a run for his money. His restaurants are in the 5 point area while Cafe Dupont is downtown. Chris Dupont is Stitts equal in every way.
This place reminds me of the gracious, elegant South of bygone years like no other. The service is outstanding without being intrusive. The ambiance is Southern genteel and I feel the plantations calling to me. Locally sourced food means everything is fresh that day or the prior day. There is nothing you can order that will not be perfect.!! Steak, lamb seafood etc. Yum.
Be advised that it is pricey, but then fine dining should be. That is what you pay for. They have valet parking and a full bar. If you want a more low key casual dinner, you can eat in the bar. Same menu. A place to meet and greet.
I especially enjoy the space between tables in the dining room.
I live in Los Angeles and so many of the trendy restaurants out here are so noisy you have to scream to make yourself heard. Not a pleasant experience.
So go downtown and immerse yourself in the Old World buildings of Birmingham and the delicious and innovative cuisine of Chris Dupont. I go here every time I am in town. You will not be sorry!!

Went here for date night on the advice of a friend. Expected good things but was left short. The food was average not great. The cheese plate appetizer was good. Nice variety. Had the scallops which came out luke warm like they'd been sitting awhile. But where this restaurant lacked was the service. Waiter seemed disinterested and disappeared on several occasions. Literally had to turn around in our seats and look for him and ask other waiter to get him. Not at these prices. Won't be back. Too many other good restaurants in this city.

This is a white-tablecloth eatery that you'll find not the least bit pretentious (in mannerisms or prices). It's got what I'd call "down-home elegance" -- and in the case of this cafe, that's not an oxymoron. Service is refined and impeccable; plates are cleared with a napkin covering. Which is all fine and good, but the chief selling point is the food and drink, uniformly distinguished by complex taste sensations created by a mixture of ingredients that one might think would be clashing but in all cases proved complementary. Examples: my compressed peach salad appetizer and salmon with grits entree. In a week of enjoying excellent Birmingham eateries, DuPont took first prize.
