“Great business hotel in Rio”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2012

Stayed here for business. Location is good for downtown, close proximity (walkable) to US Consulate and to some BRA gov't offices. Rooms are better sized, newer and cleaner than some places nearby. AC was adequate on a warm day. My room was adjacent to elevator shaft which was noisy. Hotel restaurant had nice breakfast buffet and good lunch selection. Staff was gratious and efficient. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms near elevator shaft can be noisy.

I was very happy with my stay at the Windsor Asturias Hotel. I was in Rio for a week for business in Centro and it was perfect for what I needed. The location within a few steps of the Cinelandia Metro stop and ear shot of the party at Lapa was perfect for me. The area felt safe at all hours of the day and night. The bar, pool, and view from the top floor of the city and Cristo Redentor was impressive. Breakfast was OK, not great, but decent. The fitness room was spartan, small, and stuffy but suited my needs. My room was not overly luxurious but was clean, comfortable, and functional. I do recommend asking for a room on the highest floor possible away from the lifts (I brought earplugs and got great sleep). The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was able to book my room for a low price relative to other hotels in Rio. Overall, my week in Rio was absolutely fantastic and my experience at the Windsor Asturias was a big part of that. I would not hesitate to stay here again, although if in Rio only for leisure and having stayed in Centro already, I might look for a hotel closer to the beaches first (likely another Windsor property).

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the highest floor possible away from the lifts.

Location + In Centro close to Cinelandia Metro and Lapa
Room OK
Service OK
Breakfast OK
Street Noise -

All in all it was just ok, there are many hotels in Rio with good locations and apart from that there was nothing in particular to recommened this hotel. There is nothing wrong with it either it just trundles along in the middle somewhere.

Room Tip: Dont get a room on the 2nd floor and this seems to be the central point of collection for the laundr...

I visited for 4 nights in July 2012 with wife and 12 year old daughter....had an interview at US Embassy nearby. Observations:

1. I liked the location, in "Centro" (Cindelandia). 3 minute walk to US Embassy. There are
many restaraunts/bars/cafe nearby. Area felt safe during the evening hours. Short trip to
Pao de Azucar and Copacabana etc... Also, short trip to Santo Dumont Airport (R20,00).

2. The room was average but clean and the cleaning staff did a good job. Bathroom clean and
functioned well.

3. The front desk staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful and spoke good English.

4. Breakfast(cafe de manha) was good and included in the price. Internet not included, but
separate charge.

5. If you get a chance, visit Pao de Azucar...it is worth the trip.

Overall, very good..not great but I have no complaints and would return.

Stayed for 5 nights during a convention. Nothing wrong but it was totally average. Room was sparse and a bit faded and (as seems to be the case in so many hotels in Brazil) noisy: running water from adjoining rooms, doors banging outside, street noise too. It was quite cold at night but we didn't use the cover, too musty (and so was the replacement one we asked for).
Reception was fine, breakfast reasonably good. Staff were always attentive and that was the biggest plus about the place.
Probably as good as you'll get in downtown Rio - but don't expect anything really worth almost 400 reais a night.
