Worst money spent in Brazil. I payed 94 for 10 minutes of 0 instructions just someone shouting at me in language I don't understand as the wave was coming and pulling my legs (literally) while on the board. The whole point of having a private lesson is that the teacher gives you instructions and you you understand them. If your "instructor" speaks only Portuguese, you shouldn't offer surfing lessons for non-Protuguese speakers. It felt really unsafe and unprofessional.

There are plenty of paddle-boarding vendors from whom to choose on the Copacabana. Our hotel concierge was kind enough to find a vendor with English-Speaking staff. Not only did they speak English, but they were warm and friendly. They appeared interested in both our safety and our enjoyment. Since we had a blast and ran into no hazards, they were successful.

Side note: they accept cash only. Pricing was comparable to the other vendors.

I payed for a packet of 8 lessons with Surf Rio, for a price of 400 reais. After my three first lessons, I told the owner that I would be working during the world cup, but that I would resume to my lessons after the World Cup was over.

But when I contacted him again, he told me that my packet was outdated and he didn't reply to my next messages. So I ended up paying 400 reais for three lessons, instead of eight.

And the three lessons that I did take with this owner, wasn't that goog. While in the water, he is talking to everybody else nearby and not paying any attention to his student. Even thought I also had payed for a private lesson, there was two other student with us at all time. He didn't give any feedback at all, just pushed me into the wave when it came. He also told me that I should wear shorts, instead of a bikini bottom. Not sure why, though.

I wioll NOT recommend these surf classes, the instructor is bad, and the waves were crappy as well (not his fault). Also he didn't tell me that there was an expire date on my packet and he stopped answering my emails when I told him that I had let him know that I wouldnt be able to surf for a while.

If you would like to surf in Rio de Janeiro, I recommend going on your own or going to Recreio where the waves are better and the instructors are more professional and nice.
