“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2012

This hotel is right on the beach - the restaurant has a beach view. Unfortunately they charge for WiFi - 0.40R per minute or 30R per 24 hours. We were in room 210 - the mattress was rock solid - great if you like that, I don't. There was also some really annoying noise coming from somewhere - sounded like a big electric pencil sharpener to me. This room looks out on the building, we kept the curtains closed the entire time. The shower is wonderful although the sweet spot for a good temperature was miniscule - the water was easily freezing or burning. The toiletries do NOT include lotion - so if you count on that, bring your own (I had a funny time trying to communicate 'lotion' at a drugstore - they were sure I wanted liquid soap!) The breakfast buffet is listed as included but there is an 80R charge for 'dining' - not so free & not worth that price. The fresh fruit was great but the other stuff was pretty mediocre. We did not eat in the restaurant otherwise. The rooftop bar has an awesome view!

Room Tip: Not 210 unless they give you a discount - noisy and looks out on building.

I stayed 5 nights in this hotel during my holidays in Rio and it was very good. The location just at the middle of the Copacabana is really good. From there you can walk along the beach, to nice bars and restaurants and also to the next metro station. If you take a taxi or a van you are very fast at Ipanema also.
My room was well equipped and on the 12th floor (I took a superior room). The breakfast was sufficient with excellent fruits. The roof top terrace is good for having a first drink in the evening but not for more.
All in all a good hotel at a very good spot.

the hotel is spotless and the location is top notch. But why does it have to take so long time to check in And out. that it takes a long time to check out is common in Brazil since the maid have to check that you havent taken anything from the minibar. but the check is frustrating. But the hotel is among the best on copacabana.

Room Tip: Is there any bad rooms? I dont know.

Arena is a very clean hotel, everything inside is actually brand new as the other reviews have already noticed. There is good space in the closet, a work desk, and good illumination that you can adjust using more or less spot lights as preferred: won't have to stay in the dark at night. Conditioning air works, but it seems not to reach the temperature it shows. The inside appearance is much like what we see from the pictures in the hotel site. Only need to point out that the swimming pool and the gymnasium are very small, different from what the pictures suggest. The bedroom is good size as well as the bathroom, which is furnished with shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower cap, and paper tissue. Linens and towels are clean, good quality, and they will change them every day. Bed is box and the mattress is very good. Accommodations at the lobby is not very good, but reasonable. Breakfast is not special, but is good enough. Staff is helpful and kind, and they speak English very well. If you need an electrical adaptor, the front desk will provide. The panoramic view from the rooftop is just something... and, if you are facing the beach, the view from your apartment will also be nice. At the fifth floor, I didn't got much noise from the outside, but got some from inside, apparently from the other rooms. Location is a big plus: at the middle of Copacabana, near everything: super market, restaurants, bars, pharmacy, bus and subway station, shopping center and attractions... Taxi is at the front door. An official booth for tourist information is just across street, on the sidewalk by the beach, a few meters from the hotel, and they will speak at least english and spanish (as I heard); they also have a booklet information and maps for free. The big minus for this hotel is the extra charge for internet wireless use.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Atlantic Avenue to have the best view of the beach, since the hotel also h...

Staying here for a weekend visit to Rio (Aug 10-13). The breakfast buffet was very good. Got a decent rate on a suite so we snapped it up. The room was lovely, the view spectacular (room 805). The bathroom was very clean, lots of towels and the added bonus of complimentary bathrobes to use during our stay. A caution though - the bed in this room has to be the most uncomfortable mattress I've slept on in my life. The floor might have been more comfortable. Other than that, the stay at the Arena was excellent. We booked a couple of tours through the front desk. We were happy with the Rio Express tour but wouldn't recommend the Plataforma show. We didn't have power converters with us that worked in the Rio plugs, but the hotel provided a couple for our use. A great experience!
