“Great Location, Disappointing Room!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

Santa Teresa is a colorful area to call home during your stay in Rio. The hotel is located in the center of this area. We found the hotel to be a bit disappointing. The room was spacious, the bathroom odd because of the shower placement and sinks and the air conditioning barely functioned despite a request to and response of fixing it. Where ever you try to sit in this hotel and its restaurant, be mindful that the seats are low to the ground and uncomfortable. If you want to visit the small pool, be prepared to sit on chairs close to the ground. The chairs in the bar and rooms are either overly large with slanted backs and uncomfortable or low to the ground and uncomfortable.

The bar is trendy pouring great drinks. The menu choices in the restaurant are unusual. The food quality is high and so is the preparation, but the combinations don't seem to go together.

I'm a journalist in Washington DC, anchor at the ABC station. I've traveled a lot and spent quite a bit of time at resorts and hotels that are highly touted all over the world. This place ranks up there. I had a quick layover in Rio, and ended up staying at Hotel Santa Teresa last minute. It was the best decision I made my entire trip in Brazil. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and nice. The rooms, at least ours, had fantastic views of the city, and Christ the Redeemer. The bed was very comfortable, and bathroom had a very modern, nice layout. The hotel's main bar was very comfortable, and wonderful place to hang, out some unique takes on the traditional Caipirinhas. The pool is also a wonderful retreat. What I loved about this place most, is the sense of privacy and seclusion, despite being very close to everything in Rio...

This hotel was our base to explore Rio de Janeiro from. The hotel was very helpful (arranging a private guide to see the city, picking us up from the airport, etc) and delivers good service. The hotel is nicely laid out, a beautiful entrance and stylish (albeit a bit sparsely furnished and facilitated) rooms.

The view from the deck besides the swimming pool provides a beautiful picture of Rio, the restaurant serves pretty OK dishes for the price that they charge (in Europe I would expect a bit more for this money, but luxury is not cheap in Brazil) and the bar is always nicely populated. Massages from the spa were the best that we had all enjoyed in a long time; worth the trip by itself, almost. Free internet in some spots on the terrain, didn't always work though.

Room Tip: Ask to see the rooms before you select - for the same price you could get a bath and balcony or neit...

We climbed the mountain to try the highly recommended restaurant at this Boutique hotel for a dinner.

We arrived early so we ventured into the bar directly opposite the restaurant and we were wow'd by the beeautiful cave like decore, open beds, large cushions, huge sofas, that open to the beautiful mountain surroundings, with chill music enhancing the experience. We had two rounds of drinks, and the bill was humungous at over $25 a piece :O

Finally we went to the restaurant, which was beautifully decorated with earthy colors. Although full, we did not crammed in at all.

The Courteous staff quickly settled us in, and the waiter helped me choose a beautiful bottle of Argentinian Red. The food was superb. I had seafood for starters followed by one of the ebst Filet Mignon I have ever had.

If you want to move away from the beach and try something high brow and different in Rio, and willing to pay for it, then look no further!

Overall our stay at Hotel Teresa was an awesome experience, Our stay wasn't really planned and was pretty much a last minute decision to stay an additional 2 nights in Rio and get away for the beach area for a little which can be very noisy and not always relaxing at some hours. From when we checked in the staff was very helpful and really nice. They took the time to chat with us to make sure we would get everything we needed during our stay and gave us a nice tour of the property.

Even though it was raining most of our stay it was the most relaxing experience. The room with balcony and view of the city was really enjoyable. The hardwood floors and decoration give a lot of character to the room. We could stay reading and enjoy the room with the view for hours. The bar and pool area have also a really nice set up with a view where you can get delicious drinks especially the Lichi Carperinhas!

Santa Teresa neighborhood was also a nice discovery. Several authentic restaurants and art galleries which are a good options if you wanna go for a little walk from the hotel. Lapa is also pretty close by taxi and can be an option at night to go out for drinks and have fun.

Again I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to get a different experience of Rio and get the most relaxing stay.
