I am not one to write reviews let alone negative ones, however after our stay at Villa D'Este I felt compelled to let others know about my experience. It is important to note that my expectations are not at all high, but when you are paying over USD$600 per night, certain standards really should be met...
Villa D'este would be our last of 12 hotels booked in South America, and was by far the biggest let down. After staying here for four nights it became clear that this hotel was indeed past its used-by date. Interiors were tired, and service was lacking. We stayed in the master suite overlooking the ocean, although the images of the room online do not show the room accurately as it is in-fact quite small and confined with the common spa above extending out over the room preventing any natural light from coming in. The views and location were incredible, but there are far better hotels to stay...
Staff were polite yet had no enthusiasm or desire to be of assistance. We asked two staff about things to do in Buzios and both literally told us they didn't really know. I would highly recommend 'Casa Brancas' or 'Abracadabra' where we found ourselves each day either swimming by the pool drinking coconuts (they don't even have coconuts) or dining in the amazing restaurant at Abracadabra.More
