I fell in love with this characteristic hotel! A lovely colonial villa, with typical azulejos, a very big and comfy room. Good breakfast in a lovely room, in the center of Rio vermelho. Friendly and helpful staff. I recommend

A wonderful hotel in the center of Rio Vermelho - one forgets she is in chaotic Salvador! The old, original building has been renovated with a lot of good taste and artistry - each corner is worth attention. The splendid little garden is an oasis of peace and quiet within the chaos of Salvador. Private, safe parking is an absolute bonus. You will find nearby nice restaurants and other facilities. Ask for a room with a view on the garden. And be careful on how you book - it is advisable to book directly with the hotel. Excellent and friendly staff speaking several languages will help you with all you need. Highly recommended!!

Room tip: Ask for a room with a view on the garden.

If you’re wondering which area to stay in in Salvador, your best bet might be Rio Vermelho. It’s quiet, (except for Saturday night life), safe, and still has a little character. This hotel is built around a charming old villa with high ceilings. The rooms are in two modern wings on each side, and are simple but serviceable. Everything is clean and works, but the rooms aren’t charming like the central villa, which houses the lobby and reception area. The staff is kind and helpful, and most of them speak some English.
Breakfast is a typical Brazilian buffet, lots of fruit, juices, cakes, rolls and ham, cheese and scrambled eggs. There’s plenty of coffee and warm milk, and also some hot water and teabags, although I think we used up all their black tea during our stay.

There’s a local’s beach close by, but it was dirty, with lots of garbage and seaweed. I don’t recommend it. The good beach is a 15 minute walk to the east past the Pestana and Ibis hotels. There you will find umbrellas, chairs and inexpensive beach food. There’s also a nice, pretty new looking outdoor food court by the water, about five minutes walk away, with a selection of simple but nice restaurants and cafes that serve burgers, ice cream or Bahian cuisine.
Close by there’s also a small plaza that has a little fair and live music on weekends. It was very well attended on the Saturday we were there, and the police were in place with full riot gear. We never felt unsafe in this neighborhood, although like all of Salvador it looks very run down, especially if you’re coming straight from Rio.
Overall, this is probably one of the best places to stay in Salvador.

A nice garden, a nice patio for breakfast and nice little rooftop terrace with a view on the beaches of the Rio Vermelho. Nice staff too. And affordable prices. In a super lively area. Lots of good restaurants to go out 5 minutes walk away.

The hotel itself is good and even an "acceptable" price during the carnival. The cleaning and all was good, also the breakfast was very nice. But the reception was strange. One guy was just ignoring us, the other one was nice, but didn't have any clue. The easiest things like where the next ATM would be or restaurant, he didn't know. Nobody knew the easiest informations at the reception which is kinda strange for a hotel that central. We still enjoyed our stay.
