Owner description: The Apothecary served local customers, including the Washingtons and Robert E. Lee, between 1792 and 1933. The shop was transformed into a museum shortly after its closing and visitors can still view the original ingredients, products, and documents left behind by this 141-year-old family business.

My girls (14&9) and I happened onto this small museum by chance after picking up the Alexandria magazine and following the recommended walking tour. A tour was just assembling as we came in so we decided to join it ($5 adult, $3 kid). Linda was great and had something interesting for everyone who was on the tour. I really enjoyed learning more about historical medical treatments, medicines, and pill making. The kids enjoyed the Harry Potter references and we all agreed that it was well worth the time and entry cost. Had we read about it in advance I'm certain we would have skipped it, so it was a very fun find.

We stopped here on Monday afternoon and got to do a quick 10-15 min tour ($5 adults, $3 kids 12 and under) of the apothecary store and rooms upstairs. The lady doing tour did a Harry Potter spin to the tour which our teen girls loved. Nice experience and great to see it preserved. It would be neat if they offered an Outlander themed tour ...I could see the nearby Irish restaurants making it a joint venture/event.

Stopped in here for their tour. When we purchased our tickets, the clerk asked if we had AAA as they offered a discount which was much appreciated as we probably would have forgotten to ask. Tour is about a half hour and is very interesting to see this old time apothecary in its original state. Our tour guide Don was very knowledgeable and happy to entertain our questions.

My husband and I recently visited the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum after reading about it in the Alexandria Visitor's Guide during a weekend getaway. We highly recommend visiting and taking the tour! At 30 minutes long, the tour is the perfect length for history and museum lovers, as well as those with shorter attention spans. Our tour guide was fantastic - very friendly and knowledgeable. Take a glimpse into the past with this wonderful and inexpensive tour!

Tours are $5 for adults and offered at a quarter past the hour and 45 minutes past the hour. The tour lasts about 30 minutes long and takes you on two levels of the apothecary. The docent explains historical information about the place as well as specifics on medicinal practices and drug usages throughout history.

Not for small children who are easily bored/fussy but otherwise great for anyone interest in history and/or offbeat tour sites!
