“Good place to stay for Washington DC trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2012

We had a great and comfortable stay here. Rooms are a novel concept with two queen beds and a sofa bed separated by a screen, which was perfect for two adults, two small children and a grandma. There is a separate restroom with a mirror and a small sink, then there is the separate bathroom with a big sink, mirror and shower. This is perfect if you are staying with family members that you are comfortable with sleeping in the same room, but you don't (want to) know on a "I know you nude" basis. And it saves money for a separate room.

Our room was also spotless clean and cleaned thoroughly every day.

It is about a mile away from the Eisenhower Avenue station on the DC subway yellow line. The hotel has a shuttle bus but we didn't use it. We saw many people at the hotel waiting for it though.

Instead we either parked in a garage (since this was cheaper than paying for 4 people for the subway), or we drove 2 miles to the Van Dorn Street station on the blue line (turn left on Eisenhower Avenue coming from the hotel, you cannot miss it), where you can park for free on weekends and holidays.

Service was great in the hotel, requests for extra blankets and extra towels were quickly resolved. Breakfast is also nice, plenty of food to go around, just the seating area is small so when the hotel is full (as was when we were there) it gets crowded very fast.

All in all a good stay. Well recommended.

We had booked a stay further out of the DC area to save on costs. When I checked rates on our day of departure, this hotel was competitively priced with a much better location. The location is a convenient 3/4 mile walk to the Eisenhower Metro; they do have a shuttle as well. The rooms, lobby, and breakfast area were all bright and clean. Breakfast is typical for this chain: make-your-own waffles, sausage, eggs, oatmeal, cereal, juices, and breads. No complaints; we would stay again.

We went on a holiday to DC driving for the first time from Canada. Make sure that the GPS does not force you through downtown DC, traffic is a nightmare, took us more than 90 mns to clear.

The Hotel first the positives
New rooms, friendly staff, some one actually called us within 10 mns to checking in to find out if we were comfortable. Room had good space with a divider between and a rollon sofa to convert into a bed.LCD TV equipped with some HD channels.
The bath and toilet are separate with separate wash basins.
Breakfast was decent but go early to get a place to sit and eat.
Free coffee and tea near the lift lobby.
Free Parking.

The negatives
The shower and toilet don't have locks just a push through door.
No Wifi in the room though it advertised.
Our room was not equipped with toiletries .

Overall worth while. Will visit again whenever we go to DC.

The hotel is new, only a year or so old, and is in excellent condition. It was very modern, very clean, and if I have a long stay coming up I will choose Springhill Suites. This hotel was a little close to the metro however, and I could hear the metal on metal screeching sounds as the trains turned around a tight track right under my window. Eventually I was able to fall asleep though, and very much enjoyed the comfy bed and pillows, and the modern design of the room. Would recommend for its proximity to the Eisenhower metro stop. The hot breakfast was very good. I happened to stay during a VERY BUSY weekend with lots of high school kids, but the staff did an excellent job of keeping the food replenished.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the metro tracks!

Stayed in the SpringHill Suites Alexandria Tech Center from 4/5 - 4/8/2012 with wife and 2 sons; 14 & 10. We chose this hotel because it has a free hot breakfast, it's proximity to the Metro, quick access to the highway (I-495) as well as price ($84 per night w/AAA).

Stay tip:
As you are saving on the rate for the room vs. DC room rates and not paying DC hotel daily parking fees, buy the daily metro pass for $9.00 per person. You will easily get your money's worth. From Eisenhower to L'Effant Plaza is $3.50 each way per person. R/T would be $7.00 per person without using the metro again. You can use it all day until 10:30PM if needed. Parking in DC is very limited. Walking to the metro station from this hotel is possible, but after a day in DC your feet will be tired.

Large family groups may find the free shuttle troubling as it can only take about 10 people ... and there are usually other folks waiting for the shuttle - and it also picks up / drops off at the Courtyard next door. You may have to split up or wait for the next one ... up to 15 minutes. We felt safe at the Eisenhower station but were never there past 7:30PM.

Hotel plus:
Clean & safe. Free shuttle to Eisenhower Ave metro station & Alexandria King St metro which worked out GREAT for us! Free breakfast & free parking were other plusses. Only one way in to hotel through main lobby gave you a safe feeling though it also seemed a bit strange compared to other hotels open access. Staff was super friendly and professional. Elevators were fast. Free coffee in lobby.

Hotel cons:
No pool.
Breakfast line got long and seating fills up if you eat after 7:00AM.

Room plus:
Second floor room. Decent size with modern decor. Room is split in two by dividing wall. One half is living room with sleeper sofa, desk & chair, moveable table, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and large HD TV on swivel base.Other half (in our case) was king bed, small closet and bathroom. Bathroom is split in two as well. One room is shower/sink, other is toilet/sink. We found that was nice as it allowed privacy for bathing without others using the toilet at the same time. Lots of electrical outlets too.

Room con:
Wireless internet did not work. It worked in the lobby, but not on the 2nd floor (dumb!). If you only had a tablet (or iPOD touch), you were out of luck. Our laptop could be wired to the LAN line and it worked. No mini-safe in room was another downer though nothing was stolen. Only one TV for both 'rooms' was inconvinient at times (with children). Sleeper sofa is not big enough for two older boys (who will not sleep together in the first place) ... so our 10 year old slept with us. King bed was big enough for the 3 of us.

Overall, we would stay here again based on this experience. There are restaurants in the area, but they are not really in walking distance. That wasn't a problem for us. We could have used two beds AND the pull out sofa though. Not sure if this hotel has rooms like that. ???
