Good facility and great staff. Restaurant was excellent. The hotel has a nice pool area and a great porch on which to relax and enjoy cocktails in the evening. My only issue is that there is no self parking - only valet.

Dear Gregg M,

We are happy to read that you enjoyed your stay at our historic, boutique hotel, near the University of Texas, and the State Capitol.
It's wonderful to know that you found Goodall's Kitchen, our onsite restaurant, to be excellent!
That is also wonderful that you had time to unwind and relax on our beautiful veranda for cocktails in the evening.
We hope to have you as our guest again soon.

Thank you,

Hotel Ella was the original home of the University of Texas President. The home itself is the functional part of the property with the restaurant, bar, check-in desk etc. There are rooms on the second floor that are huge and have access to the wrap-around porch upstairs -- kinda cool if you're luck enough to be up there by yourself! Caution however because it's a very old building and sound travels -- light sleepers will likely be disappointed with both street and 1st Floor noise. If you're a noise sensitive type, stay in the back -- the rooms are lovely and much, much quieter.

On our visit, everything was working to a "T" whether it was the valet guys out front (who by gosh can carry on an intelligent conversation!!!), the check-in desk, the bar, the restaurant and the rest of the staff --- all top notch.

If you can, stay on Tuesday night because that's when Goodall's Kitchen serves up their "Slap Your Mamma" fried chicken and 1/2 price adult libations...when in session you may just bump into one of the lawmakers who rule and drool over the Tuesday night yard birds!

Hotel Ella often entertains and hosts committee meetings for members of the Texas Legislature. Ella is a place where the "hoi polloi" can rub elbows with the governing class of Texas because let's be candid, "It's Great To Pretend You're A Power Broker" and Hotel Ella is the accommodating accommodation that makes it possible.

Room tip: Original Hotel Building is Much Noisier Than Rear Section

Hotel Ella is a beautiful boutique hotel with old fashioned charm and modern appointments. The service was warm and helpful. Dining is outstanding. The burger was a delicious surprise. The wide wrap around porch was the perfect spot for a relaxing cocktail.

This charmingly restored historic home hotel was my perfect introduction to Austin.

The reception staff were lovely and welcoming, in fact, every staff member I encountered was a credit to the hotel.

I as given a Deluxe Poolside room and it was super luxurious.

The king bed and pillows were akin to sleeping on a cloud.

The private patio which overlooks the pool & courtyard was a nice spot on a warm evening.

The towels and toiletries were lush, however, the shower was a bit disappointing. The pressure wasn't great and it sprayed absolutely everywhere, so I had a bath instead.

The room was streamlined with only TV, sofa, mini-bar and free WIFI. There are no beverage facilities in the room, but coffee and tea are available every the morning down the hallway.

I only stayed one night but it was a good one!

We visited Hotel Ella for my daughter who has the same name. We had heard of the hotel through the Southern Living list of recommendations and she has always wanted to visit "her hotel." It definitely lived up to the grandeur reported by Southern Living. It was a beautiful boutique hotel located very conveniently down the street from the University of Texas. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We did eat breakfast at the hotel one morning and the food was delicious. The pool is very small and not really meant for swimming, more for lounging. I wouldnt recommend this hotel for families. It is definitely more for couples or girls trips. They were wonderful to our kids, I just felt a little out of place traveling with an 8 and 6 year old here. There seemed to be a lot of meetings, parties and conventions held on the grounds, which I can understand. It would be a great place to have them- it just felt a little busy for hotel guests. I'm not sure we would go back, but it was a fun one-time experience!
