Gillane's is a tradition in Ardmore that saw good days years ago and became shabby more recently. Now under new ownership it has had a facelift. They opened up the space, retained but cleaned up the nice dark woody interiors, shined up the bar area and installed great big screen TVs. They got rid of the clown collection which was once unique, but became a little creepy over time. The best thing about Gillane's are the cool and very competent waitstaff and bartenders. A shout out to Maddie, who is one of the best. The food can still use some work. I mean, how do you make a chicken cheese steak which is too dry and well done when the fried onions are too limp and not well done enough? I think the probable answer is that the onions were not well prepped before being plopped on the sandwich. Still, due to the fresh look (Attracting a new interesting crowd above and beyond the regulars) and the really comfortable and friendly atmosphere created by the staff, I'll rate this place a average and come back in the hope that the food improves a bit. After all, the food is palatable anyway and the prices are right.
