“An Amazing Feat Of Engineering”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

We had a nice trip up the the curve. It was fall when we went so the colors were beautiful and it was really cool to see the trains coming around the tracks, while we were there 3 freight trains came by. The funicular car is also fun to ride up from the visitor center up to the tracks.

“SOmething eveyone should witness at least once in their life.”
Reviewed 29 March 2012

The Horseshoe Curve was the way the Pennsylvania Rail Road chose to help navigate the Allegheny Mountains. The railroad is still in use today, operated by freight carrier Norfolk Southern. Around 60 freight trains a day are pushed over the mountains, many trains require helper locomotives. This is known to be the world’s greatest and busiest mountain railroad. Tourists are transported track level by an incline railway, the ride itself is neat. Once you’re at the top you will be treated to long, heavy and powerful freight trains being shoved over the mountain. Several 4000h.p. locomotives scream as they do all they can to keep a train moving. Don't forget your camera / video, this experience is something to remember. Admission can be shared with the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum located 5-miles away in downtown Altoona.
