Meet with friends for explore of this Old Colony museum. Learned how and why these German settlers came to Oregon to settle in their utopian community, and people being people perfection not attained, but an industrious group that did much to advance agriculture and music in their region of the Willamette Valley. Fun to see settings of daily segments of work needed with tools, plus great medicinal garden.

After museum explore walked Emma's path to get a better understanding of Colony's layout in 1853; seeing beyond how town is configured today. Along the way easy to take a break for coffee or lunch and especially to check out the multitude of antique shops.

Hope to return for big Quilt Festival that happens over a week mid-October.

This is a museum consisting of four buildings to display the history of German settlers in the Oregon Territory. It depicts all aspects of their lives and religious beliefs and exhibits artifacts from their settlement. There are also knowledgeable docents who lead tours as we as an interesting video presentation. The surrounding area is replete with antique shops that tolerate and even seem to encourage lengthy browsing. This is a great place to spend a few hours, especially for those who want to learn about nineteenth century Oregon.

Most of the collection is "home life" articles -- things people actually used. They have a spinning wheel exhibit and demonstration once a year as well as an annual quilt show (at different times of the year). The building itself if an authentic piece of the Oregon Trail history. All of Aurora is fun to walk around and visit all the antique stores.

If you enjoy history of a colony, especially in Oregon, try, the museum and colony complex from the settling of Aurora oregon. Also, if you have read historical fiction writer Jane Kirkpatrick, this visit is especially enjoyable as she has written 3 books about the development of this area. If you can arrange to take a tour from one of the volunteers, so much more educational. While there eat at Cristas Cafe, great. Also lots of antiques stores in this town
