“What a mistake”
Reviewed 13 June 2011

We got suckered by the pictures on the website. This place is nothing like adverstised. It's on a hightway far from everywhere. It's hard to understand why the owner is in the hotel business. He seems to have contempt for this guests. There are many better places to stay.

The extremely far-fetched, unfounded and false statements of this guest have compelled us to submit the following counter-remarks in order to dissipate any and all misinformation contained therein.
There is, indeed, one true remark in the downside comments of the review: the oversight of the housekeeper whose cleaning of the shower that very day turned out to be imperfect. As the guest undeniably admits, the oversight was at once remedied, immediately after having been informed of the guest’s complaint. Upset upon this incident, the client does confess in her own words to have been freaked out, which explains very clearly her indulgence in calumny and lies.
Obviously, as is often the case, when one is upset for any reason, one tends not only to display unrelenting dislike, even hatred, of whatever one happens to come across, often unable to refrain from slandering and calumniating. This exactly is the state of mind in which the client drafted the review. To call the reception semi-enterred garage, to reduce the room size to 10 sq.m., the bathroom to 1 sq.m., that there is no wifi and no safe are nothing but outright lies.. A more balanced review, avoiding the pitfalls tendered by anger and emotionality, but building on rational and fair assessment would have been very welcome..
In actual fact, as displayed clearly and openly in our web site, free wifi is available throughout the hotel however guests have to obtain a password from reception. Individual safety deposit boxes are available behind our reception as well. Guests can request one at no charge. Only our suites are appointed with TV and minibar, and the hotel is situated on the main road just across from the antique theatre of Halicarnassus. Due to the fact that all our rooms are located on a slope, some 7 meters away and deep from the street level, the rooms are fairly well distanced from the main road and are also endowed with double-glaze windows, which avoid the filtering through of road noise. In regards to the foreign language knowledge level of the staff, they are specially trained to understand and converse in English within the boundaries of their particular assignment. For a more thorough conversation, our managers are constantly available on call, just as they make themselves available for drafting this management response to the client’s review.
These are all part and parcel of the factual, unconcealed, openly available information we display in our web site for the benefit of clients in search for a pleasant stay in Bodrum where we continue proudly to provide understated elegance in small but charming interiors, just as we have been doing for the past 20 years.

I sort of understand why some people have given good reviews but this hotel is no longer at the standard which it must have once been. I imagine the quality has just declined. It has been here many years so perhaps it has not followed the trend in providing a more modern hotel experience.

Despite having its reception in a semi-enterred garage, it has a lovely view and pool. In fact the view is incredible of the entire bay and city, literally breathtaking.

But, it cannot make up for the downside... Our room was literally 10 m2. There is no storage because it just does not fit in the room. The bathroom, all in lovely white marble, is so small that my husband stood in the shower to brush his teeth. I wish I had a tape measure to give the exact size which I estimate at 1 m2. The shower had not been cleaned when we arrived so that so of freaked me out but I must admit they came and cleaned it once I asked. (Do you have to ask?)

Then there is no TV, mini bar, wifi, safe, washcloth, bottled water, luggage rack, etc. Its safe to say that this has been the minimum at all our hotels (we visited 6 during our stay in Turkey). The mattress is placed on a board (not a box spring or lattes) hence is as hard as a rock but more importantly it cannot breathe. (I'm trying not to think about what was living inside.)

There must be a disco not too faraway because the music went on until early morning. The hotel is on the main road so the noise of cars and trucks filters down all the time.

And finally, the staff tries to be helpful but no one speaks a foreign language which is unusual in a hotel of this price.

Bodrum is a cool place; do yourself a favor and find a cool hotel!

We had an absolutely delightful stay in this hotel. Our overwhelming first impression was of the magnificent views of Bodrum, the castle, and the Aegean, which we could see from our private terrace, the breakfast area, and the swimming pool. It was an easy walk from the hotel through the back streets and down to the Bodrum waterfront, but after a few hours in the town centre it was a great relief to return to the tranquility of the hotel (we were not bothered by noise from the road). Breakfast was fresh and delicious, served either on the terrace or in a charming breakfast room. Everyone on the staff (including the owner) was helpful and friendly. Perhaps some people prefer more predictable and standardised resorts, but we found the Antik Tiyatro`s charm and authenticity suited us perfectly. We will certainly stay there again should we return to Bodrum.

The view from Antique Theatre hotel is just superb overlooking the Castle and the Bodrum bay. We really enjoyed having drinks and dining by the pool. The food was excellent and so was the service.

The hotel is walking distance to pretty much everything. The ancient Greek theatre is located literally across the street. The mausoleum (7th Wonder of the world!) is 5 mins walk, the marina is 10 mins and the Castle is 15 mins walk.

A great place to stay for exploring Bodrum and returning to relax/dine/enjoy in comfort.
