“A gem in Ankara”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

As this is a relatively newer hotel, there are a lot fewer reviews available on this website than there are for other Ankara hotels. Nonetheless, we found that all the previous reviews are very accurate! The building is beautifully restored and has a lot of character. The Colonial Suite is very spacious. Decor includes lovely antiques, yet the bathroom is bright and totally modern. We enjoyed being within walking distance of the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations and the Citadel (with its sweeping views over the surrounding city). The staff are extremely warm, helpful, and professional. Valet parking is available. Nice amenities include luxurious sheets, a range of pillow selections, turkish delight, Moulton Brown bath products,an in-room Nespresso maker/tea pot, etc. We would definitely stay here again.

One bit of advice if you are driving to the hotel for the first time (as we did) - we found the navigation of the last section closest to the hotel to be challenging and had to manage a combination of smartphone directions, a GPS device, and a paper map between two people (driver and navigator). Follow the brown "historic sight" signs to the Citadel and Museum and that will help guide you right to the hotel.

Room Tip: The website photos seemed accurate.

This was my third visit to the Divan Çukurhan and since my first stay I don't even look at other hotels in Ankara. It is out of the ordinary, an experience in itself. I encourage anyone reading this to look at the hotel's website and take my word that it is all it says it is. I described it to the Manager as 'my home in Ankara', and meant it. Peaceful, quality ambience, never crowded even when all 19 rooms are full. Close to city centre and yet above (literally) the bustle and turmoil that surrounds the usual international hotel names. I am warmly welcomed as a friend, by name, by all the staff, nothing aloof and impersonal. I genuinely marked all the boxes as excellent ... the hotel certainly ticks all my boxes and more. I can't wait to justify another visit!

Room Tip: You cannot make a bad choice.

This boutique hotel, opposite the Ankara castle, is in a 16th century Ottoman caravanserai, restored to museum quality by the well-known Turkish Rahmi Koc Foundation. Staying here is absolutely like being in a museum--all pieces in the room are gorgeous antiques surrounded by exquisite modern comfort. The bed linens are superb as are the Haremlique towels and robes which are accompanied by numerous Molton Brown products both day and night. The breakfast in the courtyard is an abolute feast with the highest quality cheeses, breads, honey and jams, and numerous Turkish breakfast specialities made to order. The presentation is amazing. In fact, I was so taken with the copperware on the table, that the management was kind enough to tell me where I might purchase it. Which I did! In copper alley, which is a unique must-see authentic attraction in itself. The Cukurhan is located in old Ankara with winding streets filled with wonderful antique shops, copper shops, and spice markets. It is also a few minutes away from the Anatolian Civilization Museum which one should see before touring anywhere in Turkey. The staff is as professional as one could expect from any 5 star property and all the services run seamlessly. I wish I could have spent more than two nights there. But I did have time to enjoy their excellent pastry shop, where I had a cappucino while sitting outside enjoying the view of the castle. This is truly a unique hotel experience--one that will stand out for even the most seasoned traveller!

This place feels more like a museum, like a privileged salon, rather than a hotel. An old caravenseray, lovingly restored, and equipped with an amazing array of a private collection of antiques and artefacts. The rooms seem to be all individually decorated; my own one was i suppose in Ottoman style (which I prefered), my colleague's Venetian: Cosy and comfortable and practical, with a wonderful bathroom. Service was very friendly and helpful. A hotel where you feel transported back into ancient Turkey, and not in any cheesy touristy way. Breakfast was plentiful and also the restaurant in the museum next door (same owner, as far as I understood) offers delicious traditional Turkish food in a lovely old-style environment. The Divan Cukurhan made is instantly onto my lost of favourite hotels!

Room Tip: There are different styles, so if you have a particular preference, let them know in advance.

This was an oasis of quiet in this busy city. It is a very special caravanserie building which has been restored with such care you feel quite privileged to have been allowed inside! Because natural materials have been used for the building there is a very comfortable atmosphere inside although in the rooms there is seriously high tech air con and fittings.
The location is great for the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations as it is almost next door, just down the hill. We ate in the hotel restuaurant which is in the very odd (but strangely fascinating!!!!) museum, next door, that you access directly from the hotel. The old citadel is just across the street and is interesting to see, even if it is pretty dilapidated.
Staff are very helpful. The hotel doesn't seem to have been discovered yet as it seemed very quiet without many other guests. More than one of our taxi drivers were confused to find there was more than one Divan hotel in Ankara so you need to be careful of that.
