“Very good choice when in Manila”
Reviewed 11 July 2012

Stayed here twice with my family within two weeks going to the Visayas. Rooms are not big, but very clean and with fresh colours. Batrooms are excellent.Service from cleaning staff impeccable. The staff goes a long way to keep the guests happy. Everyone, from the concierge, bell boys to the sweetest front office staff ever,Jenny,Tissa,Chester and Fides made our stay very memorable. We will be back for sure.

The location is very good and much more interesting than in Makati and other parts of the city. Shopping in Divisoria and Mall of Asia is a short cab ride away and Intramuros is definitly an interesting part of Manila showing the ridh cultural history of the city.

The roof top bar and restaurant is excellent. We spent two Saturday evenings there with fantastic live music, a barbeque buffet and chilled wine.Staff very good there also.

I would like to see two improvements from this hotel

1. Long drinks on the roof top bar are expensive, almost on european level. Give the staff some training on how to mix good cocktails to defend the high price We stuck to some chilled chardonnays wich I found of good quality and fairly priced.

2. Replenish breakfast items faster when empty. 9 spoons location and view is fantastic but the breakfast can go from good to great with a few easy improvements

All in all a very good experience. Reccomended!

The location of this new hotel is great - just inside the old walled city of Manila, with views of the golf course the other side of the wall. The ninth floor restaurant and roof trerrace have spectacular views of the city but the Management have failed capitalise on this potential.

While the staff are pleasant and courteous and the rooms are clean and bright (if a little cramped) there are just too many irritations to make this a really good place to stay - hence only three stars. The hotel website boasts its three restaurants (in fact it is the only thing it really boasts about) but one is just a cafe on the street outside (not accessible from the hotel directly but obviously owned by them); the second is the main nineth floor restaurant where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast is dull and unimaginative: they fail to make the most of the wonderful fruit from this part of the world, serving just watermelon, pineapple and (often unripe) pawpaw pieces. The croissants are oily and the breads sweet. Eggs can be cooked to order but there is nothing else you would expect for a European breakfast. The Philippine breakfast, looking more like lunch, goes down well with locals but not those of us from farther afield.
The lunch and dinner menu is limited and over ambitious (and they didn't have the ingredients for some of the dishes when we were there) although the food itself is good, if a little fussy.
The third restaurant is really just a roof terrace, and serves a part of the menu from the restaurant - so there is really only one place to eat a proper meal!
They do not have a gym, spa or pool, and there is not one within walking distance.
They have free wireless internet connection but it is overly complicated requiring your usename and password EVERY time you connect - and you can only connect one device (so no phone and laptop at the same time).
The TV channels are extensive with BBC and CNN and various english language film channels from the US, but the reception is poor and the sound often unclear.
And the lifts - how slow can lifts be??!

All in all, this is a clean, comfortable hotel in a great location - but don't expect to be able to spend any amount of time relaxing in it - it has little to offer and generally doesn't meet its potential - a shame.

The hotel facade is not that inviting but when you get inside, the lobby is nice and modern. Checking in was easy, they asked for P1000 for deposit and they handed to us the key card for our room. The room is small, but it's clean and modern. Beds were so soft. We were given a complimentary breakfast but the food selections were limited and they are not checking if there are still enough food because the fruits were gone.
Be careful going out at night because there are not much lighting outside and there are actually no restaurants near the hotel except for a small canteen, McDonald's and 7-11. You can also try the Cioccolata Churros Cafe located just at the side of the hotel. For their 9 Spoons restaurant located in the hotel, the menu selection was also limited and pricey.

I had personal business to take care of at the Bureau of Immigration in Manila, and The Bayleaf Hotel was nearby. It was the perfect place to stay.

Everyone was extremely courteous. The woman at the door who arranged for taxi service, Catherine, was very helpful, and Fides Gomez, one of the great the desk clerks, was very helpful also. I did not know whether my electronic adapters would work properly on the 220 voltage, and the hotel had a technician meet with me. He knew way more about my iPhone than I did. Each person spoke excellent English.

Also, as anyone who has ever traveled to Manila knows, the streets can be overcrowded and a bit maddening. The hotel was a real inner sanctum. I enjoyed the rooftop bar. It had a great variety of alcohol, and the view at night was very peaceful. The breakfast included wonderfully made omelets.

The view from my room above the old Spanish fort was compelling, so later I took a nice walk around it in the early morning.

I highly recommend the hotel. I guess my only comment on the negative side might be that the hotel management should hire their employees on a regular basis instead of a contractual basis, so that their employees could work 40 hours a week instead of 72 hours a week. They deserve a little better treatment. They were great.

I stayed in this very comfortable hotel with my girlfriend at the start of our vacation in the Philippines. We were so excited about it that we also booked a couple of days at the end of the vacation.
The hotel is located in a quite zone in the heart of the historic centre of Manila, called Intramuros. The huge old city wall is close by, as well as the famous Fort Santiago. Shopping areas with several malls are close as well.
The hotel is quite new, the rooms are very comfortable and convenient. The windows look to the ancient city wall and you have a great view of the center of Manila. However there are also rooms without windows.
The bathroom is large, clean and modern. The shower is spacy and separated by a glass pane. Water pressure and temperature are perfect.
The bar on the top of the building is very romantic in the night and gives a nice view of the city skyline.
The breakfast lounge on the 8th floor is elegant. Food is impeccable and offers a rich variety of American and Asian breakfast.
We especially appreciated the always friendly and helpful staff.
Our next stay in Manila will certainly start in the Bayleaf again.
