Time for a break after treking around the Botanical Gardens. Welcome oasis at News Cafe on first floor level overlooking the street. Friendly service, reasonable prices.

It was warm when we visited, so we went with iced coffee, which was very good. We stopped later for lunch, and the special artichoke salad was excellent. They aren't air conditioned, but the ceiling fans work well. There is a sign that says, "No we don't have wi-fi. Talk to each other and pretend it is 1995." We liked it and returned a week later.

Located upstairs on the 1st Floor on Albert Street, the News Cafe offers a great range of snacks and fresh fruit drinks (62 Rupees). The staff are really friendly and helpful, and the cafe has a specials menu too.

We took refuge in the News Café in Mahe at the start of a tropical downpour. Located on the first floor of a commercial building overlooking the street, the service was prompt, the drinks were icy cold and cheaper than elsewhere we had noticed. My husband and I also had a slice of apple tart which was very tasty and he enjoyed his cappuccino. The café is not air conditioned, but this seemed to be the norm in Mahe. They did however have large overhead fans and the glass sliding doors opened on to a verandah which also had tables and chairs looking over the street. The only thing I thought could be improved in the News Café was wifi but unfortunately this was not an available option. I would definitely come back here again.
