My wife and I and our 2 teen girls spent a very memorable day with Kevin and Amos in July. From our first contact with Open Sky, both Kevin and Amos were quick in their replies to all our questions re: our excursion.
We had originally booked to do the Dragon Back trek with them, however, given that there were forest fires in Indonesia causing smog like effects on the KL region, Amos suggested the day before our trek that we change our excursion to a waterfall trek instead. We couldn't have been happier with his decision.
The trek began by them arriving punctually at the designated time in our hotel lobby. On our way to the hike, Kevin and Amos had asked if we had tasted the local Roti Chanai in KL. As we hadn't, they found a place for us to have a light breakfast before we headed out.
We would say that we are in reasonable physical shape, and this trek was perfect for us as it challenged us physically enough to enjoy it without being either dangerous or outrageously physically taxing. Both Amos and Kevin were professional and informative during the 45-60 minute trek through little travelled pristine forest to get to the waterfall. Along the way they thought of our safety first while always asking if everyone was comfortable in the pace of the trek. Numerous calls were made throughout the hike for us to "watch your head" or " watch the hole".
Once at the waterfall, we were just blown away by how beautiful the little beach area and natural pool were at the site. Kevin and Amos got busy making a make-shift change area for our girls to change into their swimsuits. We spent the next few hours swimming/jumping in our very own private waterfall pool . They came prepared with refreshments and sandwiches for a nice lunch, and afterwards, a little more exploring of the area before we headed back to the SUV for our return to our hotel.
On our way back, they realised that we had yet to have tasted the Durian fruit that was in season, so they made another diversion, which they didn't have to, so we could taste Durian and other fruits at a local roadside market. We thought that that was a very kind gesture ,given that they were under no obligation to do this as part of the tour.
By the end of our day, both Amos and Kevin felt not like our guides but rather friends that hadn't seen us in a long time and were just interested in catching up on lost time. We spent a total of 29 days in Southeeast Asia with over 15 excursions done with other guides and tour groups. This day was by far the most memorable and exciting adventure we had in all our travel vacation.
If you have a chance to use this company for an excursion while in KL, we have confidence that both Kevin and Amos will make it a day filled of fun, laughter and memories.
