Well if you're not a seasoned traveller and you'd like to sample malaysian (and thai) food n desserts, this is a must go.
Very touristy place.
We found a very good curry noodle "Alor Corner Curry Noodle" at the end near Jalan Chengkat Bukit Bintang.

The scene is crowded. Do not expect authenticity of the Malaysian foods sold here. You are better off visiting elsewhere.

Jalan Alor is the undisputed food capital of KL. An entire street of moderately priced seafood restaurants or streetfood vendors is available to cater to your every taste. Don't go in the day though because it's dead quiet. But come night, get ready to have your senses overloaded. Not fair for me to give a recommendation since I only had dinner at two places, but let me say the barbeque fish is a must-try!

Around twenty restaurant or cafes on the one street, most of them very good. Some are slightly overpriced, but still cheap for westerners.

Best to go early, like 6pm, before the crowd comes in. Easier to walk, spot the famous restaurant and secure a comfy table. Recommend to try Sai Woo for chicken wings (even takeaway was so good!). Highly recommend to try Meng Kee (can order from 7 shops there); good for grilled fish (RM30 for small plate), fried vermicelli, fried carrot cake, fried oysters (big oysters but not too many pieces). Sangkaya is there too; perfect coconut ice cream for a hot night! Also recommend to try Penang Boy’s apom balik (crispy pancake with chocolate/banana/corn). There was also a small Malay stay selling nice Putu Piring. Avoid WAW (Wong Ah Wah) at all cost unless you want to pay to be scolded or treated badly while dining there. We waited very long for one “uncle” to take orders. While he was taking orders for a table before us, he kept scolding them for sitting on that table meant for 6-8 pax (they had 4-5 pax in their group) and he insisted they either move and find another smaller table elsewhere themselves or accept the fact that he’s going to let other customers sit with them later. He was rude and we couldn’t help but feel bad for that group. Hence, we decided they don’t deserve our business and didn’t want to tolerate such nonsense in service. We just left without ordering. Not sure what’s all the fuss/rave about their chicken wings but Sai Woo is good enough for us. It’s even cheaper at Sai Woo (RM3) vs WAW (RM3.50) per piece.
