Beautiful long walk along a canal surrounded by cherry trees in blossom. A nice peaceful stroll. We started from Higashiyama Jisho-ji temple all the way to Kumanonyakuōji shrine. Temples, restaurants and shops are along the canal.

Go early or late to avoid the crowds. It was just dying down as it got dark but this was a beautiful stroll along the canal.

Having walked this route a number of times its always a pleasure to step out along the Tetsugaku no Michi, aka the Philosophers Path again and this time during cherry blossom season. Its an easy stroll along an easy path which is easy to follow along a lovely canal. A few cherry trees were in blossom and as usual it wasn't too crowded. There are a few diversions along the way three temples which are well worth a visit; Reikanji, Honenin and Eikando. Two of these are almost always open - Reikanji and Honenin both of which makie delightful diversions. The other - Eikando is almost never open but can be viewed from the front gate. At the end of the path a right turn at the T junction leads to the main road from which its a 15 minute walk to the station nearest to the Westin Miyako Hotel from where Sanjo bridge and onward connections are a short train ride away

I enjoyed this walk, from near Ginkakui down towards Nanzenji. However, it was high summer and there were no cherry blossoms or autumn leaves. Without these, the walk is nothing special.

This is a lovely canalside walk. The cherry blossom came a little early this year so - although we came on the earliest date that was possible for us - quite a few trees were already starting to lose their blossom. It was still very beautiful and must be absolutely magical if you manage to visit at the peak of the cherry blossom season.
