“Traditional holiday house in perfect Kyoto location”
Reviewed 30 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Had a really lovely stay in traditional house in Kyoto. Location very conveniently located near many sites, grocery stores, main bus lines, etc, but on quiet alley off main road. Really enjoyed the traditional style house. The house is actually brighter than the pictures, despite the main natural light coming from internal garden. Kitchen rather basic, but perfect for our needs (mainly breakfast / light meals for a toddler). Really had a great time and would do it again.

“Comfortable, Clean, Convenient, Value, Quiet, Easy”

We (four of us) stayed here in Sept for 4 nights. Absolutely love it.

Start with a very easy, prompt booking via email communications with owner who is very good with English.

Prompt in the check in, and very detailed with useful maps.

Clean, comfortable, everything in kitchen for cooking, bus stop within 1 minute walk, a big supermarket - good for buying food if you like to cook your meals or breakfast. I think the supermarket has some 'specials' at night about 8pm (they closed at 10pm).

All good here as there is nothing negative to share except .... there is an uneven brick or concrete at the turning point off main street pathway, into the side street before reaching home. At night without much lighting here, this uneven brick can be a little dangerous.

There is also a bus to GION. Food / cafe nearby - not too fancy for us as we either eat in or dine around GION.

Will recommend anyone who is looking for a clean, comfortable, quiet place to stay in Kyoto.

“Great service, comfortable stay, lovely experience - recommend!”

Our party of 3 had a wonderful time staying at Nanako House - it definitely enhanced our Kyoto experience to stay at an authentic Machiya house. The house was very clean and well maintained as it is quite new, spacious for ~3-5 people, amenities included, convenient location (directly across from Kyoto Handicraft Center so not too difficult to find and close to local bus stops), comfortable tatami mats for sleeping. All for an excellent value.

Everyone in my party was definitely impressed with staying at this property. We enjoyed living in a more traditional Japanese home with the tatami mats and the nice bathroom (we enjoyed taking a Japanese bath every night). On top of that, Nobu was an excellent host who was very friendly upon arrival and always promptly communicated through e-mails prior to the stay.

Just a note that there is no dryer when washing clothes, you must air dry but there is an A/C in the bathroom that you can set a "drying" function overnight to make it dry faster. Also, if you have never stayed at a traditional house before, it does smell like bamboo/wood shavings - not that it bothered us but just something to note.

I would definitely recommend this property as I think it is a great value for what the home offers and definitely would enhance anyone looking to make their stay at Kyoto more unique and comfortable.
