The main ingredient is thin sliced WAGYU beef 1/2lb, and it is simmered in a skillet or pan in the SUKIYAKI sauce with many vegetables and other ingredients. The word "YAKI" means "saute " or "grill" in Japanese. The word is used because the beef in SUKIYAKI is sauted in the hot skillet. ①WAGYU Beef SUKIYAKI JYO course 6000JPN ②WAGYU Beef SUKIYAKI TOKUSEN course 1/2lb 12000JPN Is similar to SUKIYAKI, which is cooked in a pot on the table. In both dishes, thinly sliced WAGYU beef 1/2lb is cooked with lots of vegetables. Meat for SHABU SHABU is thinner than meat for SUKIYAKI. It's said that the name of shabu shabu came from the action we make when cooking meat. Because the meat is thinly sliced, it only has to be cooked for a few seconds, saying " SHABU SHABU". It's like having a slice of meat swim in the boiling water. ③WAGYU Beef SHABU SHABU JYO course 6000JPN ④WAGYU Beef SHABU SHABU TOKUSEN course 12000JPN Additional charges: Consumption Tax ,Service Charge : 15% WASHOKU SUSHI KAISEKI course Next is the Japanese food prepared in a Ryokan. Arrived slightly early. 6:40pm when dinner was 7pm. (Thought it will be a good habit to reach early as the reservation did mention to be 10 Mins earlier , 6:50pm)

Was ushered to sit on the tables be chair and first dish was served. Not the best I expected since visiting this restaurant was to experience sitting on tatami chairs and stuff. Have to ask staff to let us sit inside as we are the only couple who was left outside on the normal chairs. The feeling was outcasted and totally unwelcome. This is the first not so hospitable encounter we have in Japan!

Overall food was ok. Staff was polite but just going through process that’s all.

The place has both vegan and non-vegetarian options. The food is nice overall and the service is fine too. Booking in advance recommended.

My husband and I had a GREAT lunch here last weekend. We made reservations online, but were the only diners at 2pm, so clearly that wasn't necessary. The staff could not have been nicer and the food was delicious. We loved every bite, and found the price very reasonable for the amount of food we received. We both ordered the tofu set and sat outside, which was very pleasant even in the hot weather. Note the small shrine just next door called Konchi-in. For 400 yen this is WELL worth the visit and was the perfect walk after a big lunch. Unlike the big shrines, this was empty when we went - it makes all the difference to enjoy the serenity of a quiet shrine.

I luckily booked this place for lunch after reading reviews, but have found the food bland in Kyoto so far, eating mostly at vegan places to avoid fish broth. This place was fantastic! The setting of sitting outside in the garden on the ground and being served very flavorful food, we were very excited and this place lived up to the expectations! The meal served egg, so not vegan, but definitely no fish so vegetarian friendly which was hard to find in many places!

Situated near Nanzenji. Came because of good reviews about the tofu dishes. It is a traditional restaurant in garden surrounding. Had lunch before visiting Nanzenji. They are known for their tofu and shabu shabu. Chose tofu and not disappointed. Also ordered sashimi which was also nice.
Book online and pre-order your food and you get a 300yen discount.
Well worth a visit.
