“Excellent, friendly, authentic holiday home”

Apple House really is a home from home, on a lovely quiet estate, near a river, in full view of the mountains. Hiroko is an excellent host who was a reassuring presence during our stay - only a text or email away. Apple House is clean and offers everything you need for an enjoyable stay, for a family of four. There is a traditional hot tub and very comfy beds (ask for the extra mattress!) It is situated near all necessary amenities, including very good supermarkets, a bakery, and the good-value SpeakEasy restaurant if you have family members who sometimes want western food. Apple House is also near train stations and the bus stop and a continual supply of taxis can always get you where you need to go. Plus, of course, this lovely house is in wonderful Kyoto - we easily filled two weeks, visiting amazing temples, attending wonderful festivals and going shopping in the busy Gion area. Thoroughly recommended!

“Fantastic Property!!!!”

The Apple House is a wonderful cozy, clean and convenient authentic Japanese House located on a winding road along a river. The owner gave us exceptional customer services including picking us up at the station, collecting the garbage every few days and changing our linens weekly. The house is well stocked with cooking utensils, and other essentials, so you feel immediately at home. The house is a short walk or bike ride (provided by the house) to both the bus and train stations. If you want to truly experience Japan, the Apple House will not disappoint you. We loved our 3 week stay!!!

“Our Kyoto home away from home for 7 nights”

Our family (2 adults & 2 children 9&7yo) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Apple House. Hiroko volunteered to pick us all up (and drop us off) at the subway station which was an added bonus. She is a lovely hostess and it was reassuring to know she was at the end of a text should we encounter any major hassles during our stay. Great value for money. Fantastic being able to spread out - especially for children. Super having the washing machine and full kitchen available when we needed it. Easy access in and out using all forms of public transport, we really enjoyed the little walk from the main street or train station even after our very long hot days of sightseeing around Kyoto. There are some great little places to eat within easy walking distance. We would love to return and explore the area north of Apple house next time. Would stay again in a heart beat.

“great japanese base for exploring kyoto”

Hiroko was an excellent host. Full of information regarding the area. She made us feel confident in traveling on buses and trains in kyoto and tokyo. Although we only stayed a short time, we could easily have stayed for a week. The biggest advantage of staying at apple house was Hiroko collecting us and returning us to the station on arrival and departure. All facilities were available to us whichmade our stay great. Have sung the praises of our adventure to all.

“quiet neighborhood and clean accomodations”

Many stores and restaurants only accept cash, so it is crucial to have cash in hand. The post office is the best place to get cash through your debit card. Because Apple House is several minutes walk to the main city bus lines, expect to pay extra fee for transportation. For a family of four, taxi was the cheapest and fastest way to go to the subway station. Apple House is fully furnished and you can do own laundry daily.

Management Response
5 Jul 2014
Many thanks for your review!
Yes indeed - Japan is very much a "cash society". Many of our guests use ATMs in the numerous convenience stores around the city.
Regarding the subway station, it is a little far. However, guests rarely use the subway as it does not run near many of the tourist sites.
The very frequent number 5 bus stop is five minutes walk from Apple House and this bus passes most famous places on the east side of the city and Gion ( about 20 minutes ). You are correct that the bus stop is ( just! ) outside the central bus zone, so an extra ¥150 is payable when guests come home after a busy days sightseeing.
