We really enjoyed our stay here. Key points to note:
- the hotel is well located near sights, shops, restaurants and transport links
- rooms are a decent size by Japanese standards
- bed is comfy and the hotel is quiet, so we had a good night’s sleep
- lots of amenities in the room, including fridge, safe, ironing board and iron, toiletries
- hotel provides you with a map and guide to using public transport to get to the main sites
- free drinks and snacks are available in the lounge 1pm - 6pm
- plenty of umbrellas are available for you to borrow

There was also a spa and a bus service to the Kyoto station, neither of which we used.

We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Thank you for having stayed at HOTEL THE CELESTINE KYOTO GION for your recent visit in Kyoto. We are delighted to receive your wonderful comments.
We are delighted that you enjoyed staying with us and you were satisfied with our hotel.
We hope you enjoyed the unique yet quiet atmosphere around the hotel, while we are still in the center of the Gion district.
As you know, our hotel is located at very convenient place to many sightseeing spots and easy access to public transportation such as city bus, train and subway. Nearest stations are just 10-12 minutes walking from our hotel.
We hope you had enjoyed your public bath experience. It is true that our public bath is not natural spring, but it surely makes you relaxed. It is open from 3pm to 2am, and 6 to 10 in the morning, so it would be the great start of the day, too.
Once again, thank you very much for your time to review your recent experience at our hotel. We are looking forward to seeing you again in Kyoto, and hoping it will be soon.

beautiful minimalist Hotel in the heart of Gion, Kyoto. Onsen hot spa in basement amazing and traditional Kimonos in rooms to wear for Onsen experience. Shuttle bus to Kyoto station, friendly staff. So well situated near Geisha district, short walk to Nishiki market and Higashiyama district.

This hotel is in the very center of old Kyoto - perfect location.
The busstop to all the tempels is in 3 min walking distance - and they even have a free shuttle bus to Kyoto station which goes regulary (schedule is on the hotel homepage).
The hotel is very modern and although traditional Japanese.
The rooms are spacious and clean, with a very good bed!
The staff is friendly and speaks mostly some English - they are very friendly and caring. The breakfast is okay,
The internet you can completly forget - it is sooooooo bad - they really have to improve the WLAN-infrastructure!!! But this is the only negative point.
We can fully recommend this hotel!

I have visited Kyoto on several occasions over the past few years. This was my first stay at The Celestine.

The positives are that it is modern and clean and is reasonably well located on the Gion side of town. Some 15 minutes or so reasonably easy walk from the town centre. Service was efficient and polite but not particularly personable. There is free WiFi which worked well and a safe.

My qualified assessment reflects:

- while the decor is smart it doesn't feel particularly inviting;

- service is polite but not particularly warm and smiling;

- check-in was not until 3pm - there was no suggestion that on arrival (at about 11am) staff might see if a room was free or would be free earlier than 3pm;

- the double room was comfortable if on the small side - the view from the window on the second floor (Room 202) was straight out onto hotel infrastructure, there was no view and no attempt to soften the outlook;

- the breakfast room was quite small and the service area where you help yourself to a buffet style breakfast (which was good without being extensive) was very cramped, guests had to keep squeezing past each other as they chose from the breakfast selection.

The cost for two nights was 74,360 YEN plus 3,240 YEN per person for breakfast. This didn't represent for me particularly good value for money overall compared to equivalent accommodation I have used in Kyoto and other larger cities in Japan.

This is a really wonderful hotel. My room (twin beds) was quite spacious with all the amenities you might want, including a Nespresso coffee machine. It was on the top floor and had a great view looking east to the mountains and a pagoda and Kiyomizu-dera temple. Service was absolutely the best....very friendly and welcoming, especially by the concierges who speak excellent English. The location is very quiet, yet easily accessible to local sites, as well as a short walk to Shijo Street where you can get a bus to visit further-away sites. The place is not inexpensive, but it's worth every penny!

Also, I second the recommendation to have breakfast at Sagan (down the street from the hotel), and to skip the expensive version at the hotel (which no doubt is excellent). Sagan is a laid-back café and has some western food as well as Japanese.

Room tip: Try to get a room on the top floor with a view eastward.
