We stayed here 2/14/15 and 2/15/15 and were so absolutely impressed with the level of service we received from every single member of the staff. Most notably, Takahashi san and Noriki san. What amazed me the most about them and Japanese people in general, is that their hospitality and kindness are not driven by tips. In fact one does not ever tip in Japan. They just have so much honor and dedication to their service. The US could benefit from this ethic! I really loved our stay here. The rooms and property were spotless. I absolutely loved our bathroom layout where the toilet was in a separate little room and the shower / tub were in a large separate room. The shower was pure heaven after a long day of train travel from Tokyo! I was quite comfortable sleeping the traditional way and plenty of cushions and blankets were provided. There is no bar here, but the staff are happy to bring you sake or beer to enjoy in the lobby where there is a beautiful view of the garden and ponds. We had the traditional breakfasts and dinners both days, which was an amazing feast and experience. We dressed in traditional robes and dined with other guests in the large dining room. Exceptional care in preparing and serving our meals was abundant. I'm so glad we chose to eat at the Ryokan as it was a very authentic and delightful experience.

Room Tip: Room 702 is amazingly large and well appointed.

Very nice ryokan in Kyoto: excellent and helpful staff, superb Japanese food, great cleanliness. We enjoyed the food and the wonderful public bath. Spending a night in a ryokan is a must during a holiday in Japan: Nerimbo is warmly recommended! The only bad aspect is that the ryokan is a little far from Kyoto centre.

I booked this ryokan spontaneously due to a change of plans, and was more than pleasantly surprised. It's tucked away in a quiet residential area near some mountains, so it's not all that accessible by bus/train, but that worked for us as we enjoyed the peace and quiet. It's near enough to Kinkaku-ji and a few other shrines/temples, and quite near to Arashiyama as well. The rooms are designed in the traditional Japanese style and sleeping on the tatami mats was actually quite comfortable. They have private bathrooms for every room but please try the public baths for a truly Japanese experience - if you can, go in the morning to enjoy the mountain view. The meals are provided for; prepare yourself for generously massive delicious portions. If you have the chance as well, walk back from the temples/shrines. It's perhaps a 30 minute walk or so but in the cold weather it's entirely manageable, and you'll get to see small brooks, quaint houses and amazing trees. The service is impeccable as well. A truly unforgettable stay, we hope to be back.

Thank you very much for staying with us.
We are glad to hear that you spend a good time on your trip.
Nenrinbo is located north part of Kyoto and surrounded nature. I believe we are one of the best hotel in Kyoto for People who love nature like you. Transportation is not so convenient though, there are some sightseeing spot and shop as you visit. It seems you experienced almost every Japanese culture. Futon, temple, bath and meal etc.
We hope you come back to Nenrinbo again.
Thank you,

Stayed for 3 nights, service was excellent, and without spoiling it for most, they had some other services not found in conventional hotels. Rooms were pretty good and stylish, yet looks traditional. Meals are quality, and of huge quantities of Japanese food. You might not like the food if you're not used to their traditional food, as it is really traditional Japanese food, and not your conventional Katsu Chicken. The place you have a meal at is pretty mind blowing, won't spoil it for you, but its not your normal dinner room. Staff are mostly Japanese speaking, but go out of their way to understand and accommodate you. Really enjoyed myself there. I thought it was well worth it.

Thank you for your detailed feedback about your stay. We are happy to hear that you had an enjoyable stay with us. We take pride in the quality of our service and Japanese traditional food, and we are glad that you felt well taken care of. However, we are sorry that you were uncomfortable in the place you had meals. You would have felt blowing because the banquet room was large. We would like to improve the banquet room to be more comfortable. We hope to welcome you back the next time you are in Kyoto.

Well I stayed here in our trip to Kyoto in March with my friends. Room was quite large (or beacause it had no bed so it seemed large) and comfortable. Some of my friends couldn't got used to the Janpanese style room, they got used to sleeping on bed, but for me, it's fine. Room had only basic funiture, no laptop. But this hotel had a very beatiful designed garden with strange plant. I love this place for its peaceful and quite atmostphere !! Recommended !!
