The Granvia was a great hotel for my visit to Japan with my granddaughter June 16-21. We found the location with extremely close proximity to subways, trains, and buses to be wonderful. The breakfast included was a great value & we fueled up for each day of tours. The room was fine with a view of the train station. We did have some noise issues when a university group was placed on our floor for a night.

If you are sightseeing in Kyoto, or even I would imagine for business, you can't beat this location. Right in the station, but you wouldn't know it in your room which was super quiet. Loved stepping out into the amazing station building which I (right or wrong) loved as much as the historic cultural buildings of Kyoto that I came here for! Right on your doorstep is transport to everywhere plus a good selection of food and drink options. I had a view of Kyoto tower from my room which was unexpected but lovely with the mountains in the background too. Very comfy bed, although I reckon I could have slept anywhere after the walking around sights. I'm not a bath person but the deep bath was a delight to soak in after a long day traipsing round town.
Small negatives: English TV selection is CNN only, no iron in room, have to pay for pool.
Would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

This was our second stay at the Granvia, We were given a complementary upgrade to a bigger room - and they made up a bed for our child at no cost. Also gave us 3 of all the amenities (towels, robe, slippers, etc..) other properties on our trip only gave 2 of everything, even though we paid extra for the 3rd person in the room, so this was really nice.

Staff is is helpful - holding bags when we arrived early and keeping them for a few hours after check out.

Location is fantastic. Train is right there for side trips to Nara and Arashiyama. Cab stand outside for trips within Kyoto. Restaurants everywhere.

Highly recommend this property!

This is a great , convenient hotel in Kyoto . Access is via the escalator outside the main station gate ( turn left at exit ) .
The rooms are quiet , roomy ( for Japan ) and very clean .
All accessories provided are great .
Staff are terrific as is their English .
All buses and taxis are a minutes walk ( under cover ) .
We are going stay again this October .

Room tip: Choose a room on the Kyoto Tower side if possible .

The Granvia is actually part of Kyoto Station, so there is direct access to all local trains including trains from Kansai Airport and the Shinkansen bullet trains. There is a plethora of restaurants nearby including those in the shopping tower and underground shopping attached to the station....so if it is raining, you can spend have plenty to do without going outside. It's within walking distance of some Temples, the Aquarium, and a rail museum. There is also a Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera within a few blocks for electronics overload. Do a little research and Kyoto station has subways to all parts of Kyoto. Visit the old imperial palace grounds. Wonderful Japanese gardens. Kyoto is interesting because it was largely spared of the worst damage in WWII. Granvia can be on the pricey side during high season, but it's well worth a look and sometimes very reasonable rates are available.

Room tip: No great views, but the side away from the tracks have some views of the city.
