Our experience is from 2 nights (double room, executive level) in Nov. 2012. Arriving by train from Osaka, access to hotel can't get any easier than this, as it sits over the (huge) train station. Shinkansen station is also directly accessible via underground passage. At our arrival, room was not ready until 3 pm. Our room was reasonably big, elegantly furnished with a large bathroom with tub and shower. City view from 15 floor. No noise. Shops and department store nearby. However, for downtown Kyoto and the restaurant or night life district (Gion) one has to go 2 to 4 stops by metro (or bus). Breakfast was served either in the main restaurant, which was very crowded, or in the Italian restaurant at the 15 floor (with a set breakfast menu and limited choices). There is also a business lounge, which we found not appealing and of little use. The Granvia is certainly a very good hotel, although it does not seem to fully justify its rather high room rates (approx. € 425/night for an exec double with breakfast).

I loved this place when I stayed in Kyoto. Highly convenient location in Kyoto station for getting on/off trains. Bit far for getting around the city but the train convenience more than makes up for it. Large hotel, large rooms, fantastic bathroom (!), pleasant staff. This was a winner.

I can only echo the rave reviews from other travelers about the wonderful location with access to Kyoto main rail station as well as a large bus and taxi terminal outside. The staff is also extremely helpful, willing to point you toward any and all activities or restaurants that you desire within the immediate station vicinity as well as throughout Kyoto, even during busy times. The underground shopping mall is worth a visit, especially for breakfast as the hotel's offerings can be pricey, although delicious. Rooms here are large, clean, modern, and surprisingly quiet and relaxing considering the bustling station below. Highly recommended for the business traveler trying to get in a day or two of sightseeing before moving on to other locations.

Found right at the Kyoto Station (which is a tourist attraction by itself), it was not only convenient to get to from the airport with all of our luggage, but was prime location for touring the city. It is surrounded with restaurants, malls, etc. Don't forget to go to the basement of Isetan Mall for free tastings.

Room is spacious with more than enough amenities. The bed and pillows were yummy. The concierge was extremely helpful in suggesting very good restaurants and the hotel allowed us to leave our luggage overnight while we stayed at a Ryokan.

Stayed here for four nights in the fall high season for the Kyoto area. As many state in reviews, the location is indeed convenient to the Kyoto metro, high speed trains and local trains to areas like Nara. After a 24 hour day of air and train travel to get to Kyoto, it was great to simply go up the escalator to the hotel at the station. The room was on one of the top two floors and give us access to the lounge. We were pleased with the spaciousness and comfort of the room, and a lot of the little details are done well. AS noted by others, the bath was, in a word, awesome, with a separate shower and tub and lots of high tech fixtures. The breakfast was excellent with a huge selection of Japanese and western items and fresh ground coffee. The staff were helpful and courteous. I was a bit surprised by the very high price points of the restaurants in the hotel, but there are many places in the area to get great food, and the food vendors in the basement of the Isetan store at the station offer all kinds of fresh well-prepared fare at reasonable cost (just be prepared to adjust to the crowds and focus on the vendors who have the long lines of customers). I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kyoto for the first time.
