We found something here that is almost impossible to find in China, a quiet retreat. I awoke to birdsong in the morning!
Thanks to another reviewer who mentioned that it is away from the crowds around Westlake. Like worlds away! (A ten minute bus ride will get you to Westlake, which is worth a look.) The entire village is a one lane street only about 1km long with tea shops, a couple of nice artists studios, one small high end hotel. Typical bus loads of tourists during the day to see the temple then who all go away by late afternoon and you have the town to yourself.
If you just want a very clean and quiet, well-appointed small inn you have found it. Could not be more delightful. Only 8 rooms in a typical house. Very clean, bright, good wifi. A 5 minute walk to the temple entrance and less to the monastery where unfortunately we will miss the upcoming celebration of Buddha's birthday, described to us by a delightful English-speaking nun who we met on the street this evening!
The proprietor is very helpful with restaurant recommendations both nearby and near Westlake, and recommended hiking trails in the area. TripAdvisor says breakfast is included but that is not the case, so get noodles nearby, tasty and cheap.
A perfect way to end our China trip. Wish we could stay here longer. More
