Staying at the Share Hotel was a wonderful experience. It's located on a quaint and relatively peaceful street, just minutes walk from the amazing Stone Carvings at Peak Flying from Afar, Yongfu Temple, and Lingyin Temple.
The owners were very warm and hospitable. Just make sure you let them know in advance if you want to leave the hotel early in the morning (best time to beat the tourist crowds and the heat is getting out by 6am) -- because they lock the door from the inside with a bicycle chain!
The downstairs seating area is comfortable. And our room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed, which is often hard to find in China (most mattresses in Chinese hotels are too hard for my taste).
We spent part of our time walking along West Lake, and it was insanely crowded. I'm so glad that we canceled our original hotel reservation on the Lake, and got a room at the Share Hotel (at about half the price as the room on the Lake).More
