During my recent trip in China I was unpleasantly surprised by hotels. You can see that they were not old, they were just poorly maintained. It seems that worries of hotel owner end with the construction of hotel.
They change sheets, do minimal upkeep but be prepared to see uncleaned carpets, chairs, stained walls, ceilings and stuff like that.
This hotel stood out out of 3 other hotels in similar condition due to completely lack of staff interest in their hotel. It seems that they haven't vacuumed rug even behind the reception desk.
I learned not to expect for them to bother with washing but they could have at least vacuumed. Others at least did that - staff in this hotel aren't interested at all in how their hotel looks.

Room Tip: Always choose rooms that are not facing the road. Windows offer little to no protection against the traffic noise.

Was a bit dated and old. The breakfast was disappointing, no western food except toast and the orange juice was 50% water. We also asked for some cold milk to have with our coffee and told that was not possible only the dirty old looking boiling curdled milk was available.
The whole place also stank of cigarette smoke as people could smoke inside and the rooms stank as well.
We requested non smoking and was told it was, even though there was an ashtray available and the room stank of smoke.
Would try elsewhere next time. Guilin is absolutely beautiful and it was a shame to be let down by the hotel.

This hotel is out of the main tourist area - its quite a walk from where the airport bus drops you off. The hotel is a bit tired and the carpets not so clean, with black hairs on the clean fresh towells. I arrived after 10pm and teh night manager refused to ring my tour guide to confirm for teh next morning for me. I also asked for a plug to charge my iphone but they didnt understand me. I would pay a bit extra and stay near the river in the main CBD area eg the Sheraton.

The smell in room 8121 was awful like being in toilete. Only a few wall electricity connections. Tiny bathroom. lack bread in breakfast. Looks dangerous outside during night. Noisy main road is nearby. No iron in room unless you order it. Airconditioning system is not controlable. Free WiFi is active in the room. There are vegetables in breakfast. It seems as full by groups.

Room Tip: avoid room 8121

Only stayed here one night before our cruise on Li River. Hotel is comfortable and clean. Not located in the centre of the city but we had a car and driver so it wasn't a problem. Breakfast was very simple. Many tour groups stay here.
To get wifi in room, you must request from front desk. They will install a device which looks like a plug.
If you're travelling with friends, do note that the bathroom wall is glass (frosted luckily).
