“Historic But Not Very Well Maintained”
Review of Huaisheng Mosque

It is a historic and old mosque. This was my first time to China so I am not sure about the conditions of other mosques in China but I found this one to be a bit lacking in terms of its maintenance. Despite that, it's fascinating to see how this mosque became fully-packed with local and foreign Muslims who gathered here for Friday prayer. Besides visiting the mosque itself, all Muslim tourists are recommended to come here as plenty of halal restaurants can be found in close vicinity to the mosque.

This is the oldest mosque in southern China whilst some feel it is the oldest in all of traditional China. It is a peaceful place despite a large police presence. On one of the several entrance streets, there are many food stalls selling traditional items. The lamb, whose aroma and succulent appearance does entice, tends to be tough with gristle. The breads are good.
