“Great Hotel!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2012

I strongly recommend this hotel, where I stayed 5 days in june, 2012.
Room is comfortable and clean, people are always smiling and ready to help in whatever. Only 2 coments: for people with disability it would be a problem because the hotel doesnt have lift (I was carrying 2 bigs luggages but front desk helped me a lot!) and it is a little bit distant from city centre, I mean, Hermitage and surround (It is around 1,5 km).

Been here for 3 nights and the rooms are great. It is very nice to see some different interior than the usual simplistic hotel rooms. We stayed in room 106 a courtyard room and notice was definitely not an issue. Second, we received a complimentary bottle of bubbles due to our 2nd anniversary, very nice and unexpected touch :)

Placement is on the other side of the bridge from the winter palace, but it is only a 10 min walk and close to some of the better restaurants here on trip advisor.

Pro: lovely interior of the rooms, good service, discrete location and value for money

Cons: wifi still not working 100% there are blackouts now and then (iPhone and pc), breakfast not that big of a variety, but ok

I chose this location specifically because it is not right in the middle of the Hermitage/Nevsky area where there are so many places that prey on tourists with low quality simply because they're in the centre of everything. The walk is around 20 minutes at average pace, or you can take the 191 bus for around 20 roubles, which leaves two short blocks away from the hotel and goes straight down Nevsky Prospekt. The walk is nice because you're looking at the Hermitage across the river the whole way, and there are lots of opportunities for photos from the bridges. Across the street from the hotel is Peter and Paul Fortress, easily accessible and offers a good view of the great spire from the front door of the hotel.

The hotel itself was spotless. We arrived at 11am, and because our room was available, they immediately escorted us to the room, a deluxe on the second story (stairs only) overlooking the street (Dubrolubova). The rollaway bed was there already, and the room had plenty of space for three by European standards. There was normal city street noise below, but nothing I found obtrusive. Our windows opened so we could let fresh air into the room, since there was nice weather. The sheets were an especially good standard, and the artwork and other fixtures modern and welcoming. The bathroom was bright and clean, with modern plumbing and fixtures. (The water from the shower did leak past the guard panel/shower curtain and onto the floor, but that is tolerable.) The hotel has been obviously constructed to a good international standard, not over-the-top, but within the standard price range of a big European city. Also, the wi-fi worked just fine in this room.

The breakfast room was very small, and it is possible you'll end up sitting with people you don't know, but don't worry about that. The quality of food was very good, with a selection of hot and cold dishes such as scrambled eggs (with parsley and sliced ham mixed in--something I've rarely seen at tourist hotels), potatoes, oatmeal/porridge, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cold cuts, cheese, herring or salmon, pickles, olives, red/green peppers, juice/coffee/tea and breads/cookies. In a thoughtful artistic touch, there were even some small chocolate Easter eggs and other Easter decorations around the room.

The hotel staff made good restaurant recommendations (and the hotel is within walking distance of Na Zdorovye) Upon leaving, there were no problems storing our luggage until we collected it later that evening before the ferry to Helsinki. Sveta (the evening receptionist) was very helpful in trying to get us a taxi, and she took a personal interest in making sure we had the right directions to give the taxi driver.

If I could give a 4.5 rating, I would. Well done, Tradition Hotel. Next time I come to St. Petersburg, I'd be happy to return to your hotel.

Room Tip: My room was 209, a deluxe room. I was perfectly happy with it.

It was our first trip to Russian and with our restricted Russian skills we paid much attention to the reviews when we chose Tradition Hotel. The location turned out to be just as perfect as we hoped, across the Eremitage just seperated by the river Neva. There is a tram station just in front of the hotel while the next metro station would be around 500m to walk.

The hotel staff was very friendly and as a surprise for our birthdays we found a bottle of Russian champaign in our room. The reception ladies helped out with restaurant reservation, sightseeing recommendations and translation questions.
Breakfast was a good choice of daily changing meals, so delicious that it was a shame that there was no dinner option in the hotel.
The room was really modern standard with a spacious bathroom and excellent cleaning service.

There were temporarly construction works on a nearby building and the walls are poorly sound proof but this would be the only minus point to mention after long thinking.

My husband, son and I had an enjoyable stay at the hotel for four nights, March 23 - 27. The location was good for getting to the centre of the city either walking (about 15 minutes) or by bus/trolleybus. The reception rooms were attractive and comfortable. The excellent staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful giving local advice and arranging a "half day extended stay" on the day of our departure. They did their best to make the atmosphere affable and relaxing. We were made to feel like old friends and it was our first visit. Our family room was tastefully furnished. It was spotlessly clean, warm and cosy. TV, wireless internet, and ample coffee/tea making facilities were provided. The beds were as good as our own beds. We really liked the warm bright decor and the heated floor in the bathroom. The generous breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. All in all, it was just what we wanted. And it was a good value for money - we were given a 30% discount for a more-than-three-night stay. We intend to go back as it is perfect for the city and is reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
