“Good location, but overpriced. Need improvements to be the best.”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

I stayed at the hotel only one night during my business trip in February 2012. The hotel is located on the shore of Amur River and in a short walk distance to the city center. The hotel is clean and well-maintained, and styled for Moscow’s bureaucracy (from last century).

I stayed at a room on the first floor. The room was clean and comfortable, has a balcony. I was surprised to find a coffee maker, plate of fresh food, complimentary bottle of red wine and couple of bottles of still water. Room keys - from the last century - no electronic lockers and keys.

I recommend you not to drink water from the tubes because it has a strange smell and colour – try to use bottled water. Even if you decide to boil water – it is better and safer to use bottled water. And I recommend using bottled water for teeth and mouth cleaning and washing. Just to be clear, it is not a problem of the hotel, other hotels have the same problem with the quality of water.

Breakfast was good and I did not have any problems during my stay. I am not sure I stay at the hotel with the current level of price. It is overpriced.

Room Tip: Do not drink raw water from the tubes!

The hotel Parus was home for 4 nights in December and it was an enjoyable stay. I paid 16,000 Rubles for 4 nights stay which included breakfast. Considering how expensive everything else seems to be in Russia, I thought this was good value. The rooms seem to vary depending which area you stay in (block A or block B). I was initially on the 3rd floor where it seemed to have nicer fittings than the 2nd floor. The A block looks to be another step higher again. While clean it did have its fair share of marks and wear and tear - someone had put a hot iron on the ground, burning the carpet. The other positive is it closer to the main street than the in tourist hotel. Internet is 300 Rubles for 2 hours and I had no problems with speed. I thought the quality of the food was also quite edible (pancakes and caviar are still on the menu) and served very quickly. Strangely, breakfast is served from 8am each day, which wastes an hour of the morning. This may be only the case in winter.

Noise is an issue, but it does appear to abruptly stop at 11pm. The cleaning/floor staff were friendly and very efficient. I never saw any snow or ice on the entry way. On the other hand, the front desk staff were very short and curt. English didn’t seem to be an issue, but any question was answered with a single word (mostly no) and never a smile.

Well, just want to warn travelers that they won't be getting their money's worth at this hotel, but you have to put this in context of any Russian hotel where you have security guards at the entrance since there is so much crime and danger in this country. The rooms are clean, the floor staff attentive, but way overpriced. The location is good, but they still haven't figured out basic things like clean the entryway so you don't break your neck in the winter with the slipperiness and all. Food is crummy, but again, this is the "best" in town.

I 've been in Khabarovsk for business. Spent whole week in this hotel. They added wifi for around 12 dollars for 2 hours and blinis and caviar for breakfast if compared to the previous review. the bed was quite comfortable. the only prob was loud music from the beach. Opt for the backyard room, I wanted to have Amur river view so had to wait until midnight before going to bed. the view was stunning!
Staff do their best to please customers. Locals said that Parus is the best hotel in Khabarovsk.
