“Nice business hotel”
Reviewed 24 March 2012

Big modern hotel in the heart of the city, near the Belaruskaya station and metro stop. Room was spacious and clean. Good amenities and plentiful towels. I was upgraded to the executive floor on the 8th floor. Pickings in the lounge were a bit lean in mid-afternoon. Decor and furnishings are fine, but nothing fancy. The hotel has a gym which I did not visit. Desk staff speaks good English, at least the ones on duty when we arrived. No help for someone with lots of luggage and no carts. This place is perfectly adequate but nothing special. We did not eat in the restaurant.

Room Tip: They upgraded me even though I did not really qualify, because the guy I was with was an elite membe...

The location is OK, the rooms are clean... But forget the rest! When checking in we had the same trouble as other members from the tripCommunity: allegedly we had no reservation. Unfortunately it was late at night and the receptionista was not fluent at all in English. After half an hour of negociation in sign language and rudimentar russian, we got a room. Well, this room however was already occupied and so we had the extreme pleasure to pop into a room where a couple with an aggressive guy were sleeping. Half an hour and an adrenaline rush later we got then our room which was located just next to the building site, construction work starts at 6 in the morning... In the morning we asked an english speaking staffmember to provide us with the legally required stamp on our visa to certify where we are staying... Njet possible! How about a quiet room? IT system down or broken... Njet possible. And best of all: when it came to payment... System down... Payment by card not possible, only cash! Luckily we had not spend a lot of rubles so that we had the requirement amount left in cash. Only kerfuffle this hotel!

Room Tip: Away from the huge construction site!

Booked to stay at the H I over the New Year as we planned to spend NY's Eve in Red Square.
It is situated about 30 mins away from the main centre of Moscow but 1 min away from the Metro which is really cheap and takes you there in 2 mins.
The restaurant does really good food (compared to the rest of Moscow!) although a little on the expensive side, as is breakfast which is 950 rubles (£20), and the staff talk very good English which also helps.
The rooms are really well equiped and quite big, the TV's have UK channels and there is a kettle with tea and coffee which is always welcome.
The beds are king size and have the soft and hard pillow options as in the UK, so overall was well pleased.
Only one complaint....big building works right opposite which start between 7 and 8am and last until 8pm. Not good if you have enjoyed sampling the local vodkas and beers the night before =o)

Room Tip: Ask to be away from the bulding works. We were in rooms 702 and 704 which weren't good!

If you are traveling from Sheremetyevo airport - this hotel cannot be beaten - it is a very short walking distance across the Belorussian train station square from the Airport Express train. Granted, the walk itself is an adventure (as you exit the Airport Express offices - walk clockwise to the opposite side, where the white church is - and you will be right at the Lesnaya st. then turn left and one long block later you will see the hotel), the surfaces are not the best for your wheeled luggage.
The lobby is always crowded beyond belief, as there are dozens of people waiting for someone else, arriving, and just hanging for the free internet. The internet is slow, better options are ridiculously priced - USD30 for 512kbps for 24 hrs, or USD 40 for 1024kbps.
Security considerations made navigating this hotel a nightmare - your card allows you to travel only to the floor where you live, so forget about visiting friends or going to the executive lounge. Keep that in mind.
The executive lounge itself is nice, but spartan, coffee machine/water/fruit. Breakfast at the hotel is another overpriced commodity - USD30 for a full breakfast?? Fortunately, there is a nice Le Pain Quotidien one block away (closer to the train station), as well as organic food store, Starbucks coffee and so on. There is also a big 24hr Supermarket Azbuka Vkusa - overpriced but very very good choices. For basic things and liquor you can walk to the corner of the Tverskaya St and find a 24hr bodega that sells cigarettes, snacks and alcohol, right next door to the Currency Exchange.
The proximity of Tversaya St. makes it very easy to get anywhere at any time of day/night.
Back to the hotel - the furniture/bedding is good, the curtains do not close all the way for some reason. Bathroom and toiletries are very good. The windows are soundproof, so it is very quiet inside the room.
It is a very good choice for Moscow, especially for the location. Other than that, hotel is priced on par with other similar properties.
All staff members speak English and are very eager to help. Smiles are rare, but their earnestness is what they are told to radiate. Make them smile and they will come alive. You do need to ask them yourself - they are too busy to remind you of anything themselves. Ask for a registration card - all visitors are supposed to have one and carry it with a copy of your passport at all times. When ordering room service (ice, utensils, etc.) you may have to call two or three times as they "forget" :)

This hotel makes its job for the business traveler, moreover it's really well located.
But internet access is a real hassle. Not only it's a rip-off (but we're used to, aren't we), it's also slow and a pain to manage. You got to register (and pay) for each device (hey hotel management, ever heard about smartphone?), you can't get full access for the whole stay and there are different plans, you never really know what to choose.
The only place with free wifi is the lobby but they restrain it to 128kbps, speed of our good old modems. In the evening, the result is that all sofas are monopolized by people on their laptops/tablets/smartphone. That gives a strange image to the hotel.
Maybe they'll realize one day that we're 21th century...
