Stayed overnight on 16th January to see ballet at Bolshoy - guess this was my 20th visit in last three years if not more. Have previously written a number of reviews and now want to post some info on rooms etc which might interest potential guests. Standard rooms are of quite adequate size for the single traveller and acceptable for a couple. Superior rooms are quite large and of Junior Suite size of most European hotels. Junior Suites are HUGE and would be classified as full Suites in Europe as the have separate bedroom and study. I have not stayed in anything bigger than Jr. Suite so have no info on those. Bathrooms : some people may find the bathrooms small, this hotel was built in the early 1900s when room size was probably more important than bathroom size, but the bathrooms have one feature which for me trumps any other factor : showers with excellent water pressure and volume ! I would choose this every time as opposed to a larger bathroom with no good shower. Most hotels I know in London cannot be relied on regarding this issue which for me is important.
I have previously described some other factors re why I like this hotel, briefly : excellent location right opposite the Bolshoy, excellent buffet breakfast in period piece huge high-ceilinged breakfast room, bar service with hot food around the clock 7x24 !
I have been trying to persuade the management to install and run their own hotel car service with English speaking drivers for airport and city transfers, no luck so far but will keep pressing. But am aware that in this Uber age younger guests may not care too much for this ..... sigh !
