“Right in the centre of Makati City, walking distance to Greenbelt Mall”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2011

I had some personal work at AIM, Manila and hence started looking for hotels nearby when i found a good deal on BSA suites. The best thing about this property is its location as its located next to the greenbelt mall, AIM and there are tonnes of restaurants nearby. Its good value for money as i just had to pay 60 USD per night which is a steal for this property. However, dont expect too many luxuries. Room is basic but clean and comfortable. There is a micro wave in the room and they serve a decent breakfast in the morning. Room itself is pretty spacious and you'll have a comfortable sleep. Overall, its an average property which needs to be renovated as currently, it looks quite dated. But the staff do take care of cleanliness and dont let the dated look of the property become too much of an issue.

I have previously stayed at BSA tower which is across Greenbelt 5. BSA Suites is in Carlos Palanca St which is 4 streets away from Greenbelt but it was next door to the building where I needed to do some work/business meet. It worked well for me. The one bedroom was priced well by Asia travel but you have to add 15% vat and 10% sc on whatever rate was adverised. It worked out as just P2,800/room / night with the taxes. No frills place. breakfast are delivered at a time you ask for every morning on canteen plates. They come cold but there is microwave in the unit if you bother to eat it. House keeping is efficient and clean everyday. TV works, there is a sofa and plenty of space to move around just like in BSA tower. Now, some condo/hotel units are tiny, so this is a plus factor.

Reception is efficient, guards/security is 24 hrs and elevator are ok, sometimes slow, but not terribly slow. It is in the convenient side of Carlos Palanca near dela Rosa St and in there you have tons of restaurant to choose from. Our favourite is KFC, Barrio Fiesta, Inasal, Kintaro Japanese. All are very affordable. Pan de manila is also open 24 hrs a day and they make good bread. Mercury drugstore for little emergencies is also a few steps away. Internet wi-fi is free and available int he bldg but only on the ground floor, in a little office that has a sitting area. Kinda look cute seeing people in a display like room late at night with their laptops. I tried this once and it worked ok. Internet cafe is just behind at Rada cor dela Rosa at only P35/hr next to the nails shop.

I am sure most will not camp in their hotel room anyway, so for what it is worth, the location and what is included, it is a good deal to stay at BSA suites.

Along Palanca st, there is a Mini stop (24 hr convenience store across the hotel), countless banks and ATMs along the street and next streets.
Our favourite massage/spa is along the street, about 6 buildings towards Legaspi St. It is called Yuveyn, kosher, clean and very good all for P350/hr. Open from 12 noon until 12 mn 7 days a week. Ask for Jessa at reception and pls tell them they come recommended.

Local trips can also be booked at cebu pacific, zest air and philair booking ofice on the same road.

At night, it was unbelievable buzzing at Palanca St. with 3 pubs. We have tried The Plantation and The Balcony this time and they are both good drinks and atmosphere. The Balcony can get so busy one might have to wait before being seated.

If it is raining, the footbridge can be easily accessed in dela Rosa St. This will take you all the way to SM dept store and then to MRT terminal in EDSA. A more scenic walk is towards Legaspi St where there is a well maintained park, with plenty of benches and trees, that'll make you have a few moment of escape from the city scene.

I also highly recommend Sunday market along Legaspi st cor Herrera that is set up only on Sundays at a carpark area. This is open from 8am to 1 pm. You can have your breakfast, shop around, lunch and then buy a dinner take away from this place. They sell a lot of organic veggies.

Union church is just at the corner of Rada and Legaspi Sts. I have managed to attend a service this time and my, what a wonderful church congregation. Head towards to sunday market across the road after sunday church - a perfect sunday morning.

Quick walk to Greenbelt 2 at night after a massage at Yuveyn is a perfect night out. Here I recommend Spicy fingers, Barcino and Cafe Havana. Oh yes, a new-ish place next to Havana called cerveseria, san mig light buy 1 get 1 for p110 and good selection of tapas.

One week business trip with plenty of entertainment to do in between work well suited stay at BSA suites

Room Tip: They do not have twin bed arrangements so for those travelling together but not wishing to share the...

I was assigned for an engagement from Nov'10 to Feb'11 in Makati. The client suggested the BSA suites. According to the website it was ok and google-maps showed that it is just 100meter away from the offices I'll be working for my time in Manila.
Already check-in was not very nice but when I saw my room, I hardly believed I've been put into such a 'whole'. It smelt not very nice and I couldn't get rid of the feeling everything is dirty.
Even they promised internet connection, I couldn't get any signal nor could I find something that looked like an Ethernet plug.
After a couple times of talking to the reception and a few days later they put me a temporary GSM-wireless station into my room. That kind of worked in one section of my room but not where the table was.
The bed was not comfortable at all and the pillows much to big and hard (for my style).
Rooms are coming with breakfast. Nice, but there is no restaurant or similar thing in the building. I've been told, I have to order breakfast every morning. So I did. But I rather had not done so. They brought me a cardboard box with a wizen sausage and some 'egg-thing' together with a yellow coloured liquid that smelled a bit like orange juice.
If you have to stay there, just walk across the street and by something at the mini market there. There is a small kitchen with a microwave oven and a noisy fridge. And a sofa I always put a towel on before I sat on it.
Toilet was pretty old and the the toiled lid was not fixed properly.

Outside in the hallway it was always hot and stunk from cooked food. Normally that is not as fatal, but often only one of the two elevators was working and the other was always occupied. So you end up to wait up to 5 min (no joke) waiting on the 13th floor in a bad smelling heat for an old elevator.
Don't use the cleaning service offered from BSA suites, its much more expensive than bringing your clothes on your own to the next dry cleaner around the corner - they do the same but charge more (in fact they just multiply the price...). Furthermore, most dry cleaners bring your cleaned laundry back to your room for no charge. And if you meanwhile have new laundry to be done, just give the delivery boy the dirty cloths and you don't even have to walk to the dry cleaner.

The service is not very nice at all. E.g. my colleague wanted to get a late check out because his flight was later in the evening. He asked for it a couple days ahead but they couldn't confirm him a late check out (he stayed there for about 5 weeks in a row!). Furthermore, if you ask for a taxi for a certain time the next day, 9 out of 10 times there is no taxi there (or let's say there wasn't ordered one).

After all this, I asked in the New World Hotel at the other side of the Greenbelt Centre for a long-stay rate and got one that was not that much more than BSA suites.
When we came back in January'11, we stayed in the New World Hotel and had nothing to complain...

My advice: don't believe what you see on their website (you can't smell online). If you have to stay only one or two nights and you have to save money, go ahead and try it out. But remember my words...

Room Tip: Not to recommend anyway, but if you have to stay there, ask for a room in a lower floor. The elevato...

Walking distance to Makati Medical Center and Greenbelt Mall and just about all of Central Makati Business District with ample eating, shopping all for a price of an average Motel chain in the US makes this a high value. Rooms were clean but not luxury. Staff was excellent, friendly and very kind to my 92 year old mother.
