Somerset Salcedo is centrally located in Makati and comes at affordable prices of PHP 3500/day for a good size serviced apartment with bathtub/shower/cooking oven/fridge/internet/toiletries.

Breakfast Buffet keeps you stuffed up to catch up for work and menu is generally mix of English/American/Tropical.Gym,sauna and pool make up for the daily regime post office.

Typical stay good for people travelling on business and families.Next to prominent places around town and can leisure around in Greenbelt Mall/Burgos Street night life/7 eleven walking around within a kilometre.

Cabs range around 120-150 PHP for Market/Market/Mall of Asia/Oceanorium to get to the shopping/bay area side.

Plenty to enjoy while in Makati and dont forget to get some massage;)

Room Tip: Corner suites are large but sunny.

We travel frequently to Manila (Makati City) on business and during my last to visits in Sept 2011 and Nov 2011, we choose this hotel / serviced apartment. We were booked on floor 16th & 17th each time and at Somerset Salcedo Makati, the rooms are significantly bigger than most service apartments at Manila. As it is rather old requiring a renovation, it was not overly expensive and relatively large. It has a complete kitchenette which works with gas but not much use for me. It also had a Microwave and fridge but it was old and dated. The rooms do not have a option of TV in bedrooms, they only have one old set of TV (not LCD) in the living area which was big let down too.

I had some major issues with this service apartment with internet connection, Daily buffet breakfast and the hotel elevators. For a premium service apartment in a business area like Makati city and business travellers like me, it makes a NO Sense living without Internet service at all. Secondly, the shortage of elevators, there are only 02 lifts for 30 floors with each floor holding from 5-7 rooms. Each time i wanted use the lift to either move up or down, i had to wait not more than a 5 – 10 mins and that was frustrating. This building doesn’t even have service elevators, hence all the service providers like housekeeping and others also use the same lifts.

Thirdly the daily buffet breakfast is disappointing as well as internet and other services. The spread for this breakfast option is very very limited and has no options at all. Also during both my stay, we found same or repeated options for breakfast, the choice for hot food in breakfast is highly limited. They do have an option of GYM / workout and indoor pool, but the indoor pool area is stinky and small.

Stayed here in January and February 2012 for a business trip. The rooms are significantly bigger than most service apartments that I ever been. It has a kitchenette which works with gas but it's old and rusty. Microwave and fridge are also old and dated. The kitchen cabinets has the old english wooden design too. My main two complains are the speed of the internet connection and the hotel elevators. Firstly, the internet speed is dismal, where I can clock dial-up speed at times. Secondly, the elevators. There are 30 floors of rooms, with each floor holding from 5-7 rooms. And guess how many elevators to service these 30 floors? TWO! Yes, two elevators for 30 floors of guests. Imagine the morning wait during office hours. On average, I waited 10-15 minutes for the elevator daily (from 29th floor to 6th floor for breakfast to Ground floor to exit). Take note there is no service elevators for the hotel staff, so they will be taking the same elevators as you too. The surplus of this hotel, well, it has big rooms, decent gym, indoor swimming pool (really small one), and an ok breakfast spread which is changed daily. On the whole, I would not really recommend this place to anyone visiting Manila as tourists, but for business visitors, why not (if you are patient with the elevators)?

I would normally stay at the Somerset Olympia if I'm traveling with my parents but they were fully booked this time. The Somerset Salcedo was a bit pricier than Olympia probably because it is closer to Greenbelt. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite with a big living room and dining room. The kitchen was a bit small but with a big fridge and complete with cutlery and crockery. The rooms were spacious with ensuite bathrooms but needs a bit of refurbishing as they're a bit dated. Internet is also included in the package along with breakfast, although a bit basic and nothing to rave about.

There seems to be Somerset policy about parties in the apartments that reminds me of being in a dorm. It seems that they cater for long stay guests and don't encourage residents to host gatherings other than ones organized by the hotel, if any.

My expectations (over several weeks) were not at all met as I stayed in Vietnam in another Somerset Serviced Apartment for many years and I do know about standards to be expected. As it is rather old requiring a renovation, it was not overly expensive and relatively large (3 bedroom apartment) for the price. Therefore my family had lots of space. However breakfast was disappointing as well as internet and other services. The indoor pool area is stinky and small. The dryer in my apartment was broken and I was told that it is not a dryer, but a spinner despite the fact that maintenance staff told me before that the dryer is beyond repair and that they are waiting for next year to replace it. When complaining to the GM, it was useless to say the least. I expected Singaporean style of management and I got a rather badly run place. As it is old, there are insects.... To be fair, it was cheaper than other apartments form the Ascott Group, but for a reason. Location is quite good.
