Angela and Alex have been the owners of La Ceiba for 4 years now, and are wonderful hosts, whether you want to purchase some take-along food for travel (a small chocolate cake loaf, a big slice of carrot or (literal) coffee cake, an almond muffin, a Nutella roll, a cream donut, a cream cheese ball, a meat or mozzarella empanada, or a variety of fresh breads priced from 0.50 (a whole-wheat roll) to 4.50 (gluten-free yuca bread) or sit down and enjoy a full breakfast, served until 1 p.m. (currently, available for a prix fixe of $5.75, including a choice of Crepes Suzette, French toast, a variety of eggs and omelettes, bagels, and English muffins, fruit and coffee/tea with a free refill), a lunch sandwich of turkey ham, salmon, BLT, chicken or pulled pork (priced from $4.00 to $5.50), a fruit smoothie or a variety of hot beverages, including their own exclusive locally-grown coffee from a secret source.
La Ceiba is open Monday through Saturday, from 9 to 6. It's located a short block from the town park, in the middle of the 2-story Don Vidal office Building, next to the Caldera River Bridge. Look for the Ceiba tree logo hanging outside and follow the delicious aroma of fresh baked goods prepared by Alex on the premises early in the morning. Ever since Angela and Alex took over this small bakery/café, this has been my own go-to place for a quick snack or lunch, that delicious chocolate loaf, and the pleasure of a warm greeting from Angela and Alex. In a town famous for its hospitality, La Ceiba stands out, thanks to the quality products and personal warmth of its owners.
