I didn't stay here whilst in Essaouira but visited twice with friends for lunch and to sunbathe in the gardens! Behind a somewhat innocuous and decrepit entrance on the main road you descend some curved graded steps into the gardens, pool and foyer. It's such a unique and quirky place full of the owner's beautiful original artwork, palms, strolling peacock, hammocks, and some incongruous large arty items which somehow work!! A lovely place to sit in the sunshine with a glass of rose and relax out of the hustle and bustle of the Medina! The food was good, though pricier than at other places, but I think I would expect this being French owned. It was still good value!
Loved it and will stay here next time!

We stayed at Dar Caravane for 3 nights in early January 2018 and it was SUPERB. We (2 adults, 2 kids aged 5 and 7) stayed in a suite Marie Galante which was gorgeous - clean, comfortable and nicely fitted with our own balcony. The grounds are fantastic and the kids loved exploring them, the staff all beautifully friendly, service good and the food (we ate at the restaurant the first evening) was exceptional. Best food we ate in Essaouira by a mile. Only drawback was the pool was freezing, but it was January. Very reasonable as well - worked out less than £150 a night. Would 100% recommend Dar Caravane and if we returned to Essaouira this is where we would stay.

Room Tip: Marie Galante suite is beautiful

Our taxi dropped us outside and I was not impressed with the appearance. However, once inside what a place! A large garden with many sculptures, confortable chairs, friendly staff.

After a drink of tea we were shown our room. It was large - a large lounge, bedroom, dressing rom and bathroom. The only time we have had a larger room was in a 5* hotel in Chennai.

Our room has a number of original paintings by the owner. I would have like a bit more light in the room for reading.

Food here was very good, but if you want to eat there in the evening make sure that you book or you could find everyone has gone home except for the night watchman. However they will always call a taxi to take you into town.

Thoroughly enjoyable place to stay.

We are always on the lookout for an oasis of calm in Essaouira where you can just hang out for the day. If that's what you want then Dar Caravane is worth a visit. It is close enough to Essaouira for you to use a petit taxi (7dh) to get there, although finding a taxi to take you back into town requires a bit of patience.

It is a lovely setting with sun loungers, dining tables and hammocks spread around the pool on the lush grass under the shade of the palm trees. There are also some big animals (elephant and hippo) which are a bit random but add to the tropical feel.

There is no entrance fee so the expectation is that you'll have lunch while you are there. The food prices are inflated of course, but since most pools will charge you 100dh pp entrance it is nevertheless good value.

Don't expect to just bob around in the crystal waters of the pool... it is absolutely freezing and everyone who jumped in gasped as the air was ripped from their lungs by the icy water.

Also, as other guests have mentioned, the staff are particularly sleepy... it doesn't really matter I suppose but we ordered lunch at 1 and it arrived at 2. And they forgot to bring the water but still charged us 30dh.

So overall a nice place to visit but don't go if you just want to swim.

A handful of huge and very comfy rooms. Outstanding food. Excellent hotel. But...the air conditioning didn't work, and although two staff were exceptionally helpful, we couldn't say that of everyone. Alcohol is served for those who want it, but very pricey. The location: it's a few minutes' walk to the beach along a busy road, and a 45 minute walk or 10 minute taxi ride into town. If you don't mind that, and can communicate in French or Arabic, we would recommend it.

Sorry for the " air conditioning " we have a "legal alcool off license " very expensive to get and to keep , one of the main reason for the prices .
But you are happy to know that you had a great time with us , and most of all that the satff was very helpful .
